The Opportunity

We are currently seeking a Central Shop Mechanical Maintenance Planner to join our Central Shop Maintenance Team in Long Harbour, NL.

This is a permanent on-site position , working a 4x10s Monday to Thursday schedule at our Long Harbour Operations Site.

As a Central Shop Maintenance Planner, you will provide planning, scheduling, and coordination support for maintenance repair activities executed through the Central Shop. The role is responsible for developing detailed work packages, coordinating labour and material requirements, and ensuring maintenance work is ready for execution. The Planner will support mechanical repair, CNC machining, welding and fabrication, FRP repair, and protective coating activities while working collaboratively with operations, maintenance, engineering, procurement, and contractors.

Additionally, in this position you will:

  • Plan and schedule maintenance repair and fabrication activities executed through the Central Shop.
  • Develop detailed work packages including labour requirements, materials, tooling, drawings, inspection requirements, and estimated durations.
  • Coordinate job readiness activities to ensure materials, services, tools, permits, and documentation is available prior to execution.
  • Prepare material requisitions and work with procurement and warehouse personnel to secure required parts and services.
  • Coordinate machining work including CNC and conventional machine shop activities.
  • Support planning of welding, fabrication, FRP repair, and protective coating work scopes.
  • Maintain accurate work order information, task lists, estimated hours, and completion records within SAP.
  • Track planned versus actual labour, material usage, and work durations.
  • Support weekly planning and scheduling processes, priority meetings, and shutdown planning activities.
  • Work closely with supervisors, trades personnel, operations, and contractors to optimize work schedules and resource utilization.
  • Review completed work packages and capture lessons learned to improve future planning accuracy.
  • Ensure all work packages comply with established safety requirements and maintenance work management processes.

About You

Education:

  • Post secondary education is required.
    • Preference may be given to a Bachelor of Engineering Degree or Engineering Technologist Diploma.
    • An Interprovincial Red Seal may be considered.
    • A Project Management Professional (PMP) designation would be considered an asset.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Maintenance Planning, Maintenance Supervision, or a closely related discipline in a heavy industrial or mining environment.
  • Previous experience coordinating major maintenance activities would be considered an asset.
  • Previous experience with project controls, tracking, costing, budgeting, etc. would be considered an asset.

Skills:

  • Proficient in SAP, MS office, Power BI, and P6.
  • Analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Flexible and adaptable, able to respond to changing roles and environment in a positive and constructive manner while managing multiple priorities.
  • Able to build and maintain strong positive relationships across multiple work groups.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
