Assisting the Chief Engineer in the supervision and coordination of all personnel involved in the

operation and maintenance of heating, cooling, power and refrigeration equipment.

POSITION AUTHORITY:

The incumbent is authorized to take reasonable action necessary to carry out assigned duties and responsibilities, provided such action is consistent with position guidelines as outlined below.

POSITION GUIDELINES:

Position guidelines include but are not limited to, established company and department policies and procedures and all supervisory directives. The incumbent is expected to exercise sound, reasonable judgment and initiative, and give high priority to accuracy and details in the performance of job responsibilities. Demonstrate the ability to plan, organize and execute multiple tasks in what can be a fast-past environment.



Qualifications

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in the supervision and direction of all operating plant personnel
  • Perform all functions of an operator or operating engineer
  • Requisition necessary supplies and repair parts
  • Schedule operating shifts, overtime projects, vacation coverage and able to cover shift if necessary
  • Ensure preventative maintenance is performed on all mechanical equipment
  • Assist Chief Engineer with interviews of prospective employees
  • Perform periodic performance evaluations of operating personnel
  • Dispatch engineers to assigned duties and work order request
  • Assist the Chief Engineer in all duties prescribed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE:

At least 2 years experience as a plant or maintenance supervisor. Technical ability to troubleshoot and diagnose HVAC systems along with their associated components. Be able to read MEP drawings. Capable of understanding and operating 15Kv and 5Kv distribution systems. Must be available on a 24-hour basis in case of equipment failure. Must be able to train operators on equipment operation and safety.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • Knowledge of Heating, Cooling, Power Distribution, and Refrigeration Equipment,
  • Knowledge of Building Automation Computer Systems is a must.
  • Excellent communication skills including over radio, phone, and email
  • Ability to work with computer software such as Word, Excel, etc.
  • Familiarity with Preventative Maintenance programs
  • Experience with scheduling and payroll systems
  • Ability to be cooperative and flexible
  • Must be accurate, timely, and discrete

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to hear variations in noise made by mechanical equipment
  • Ability to read color coding, small print, and objects
  • Ability to be walking, sitting, or standing for long periods. On average, walking – 4 hours at a time, sitting – 2 hours at a time, standing in one spot – 1 hour at a time
  • Must have good equilibrium and sense of balance for working on catwalks and other mechanical spaces
  • Ability to work outside in weather extremes including high temperatures during a Texas summer
  • Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, and kneeling
  • Ability to push and pull objects or materials weighing up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders, working at heights up to approximately 30 feet for extended periods, with the ability to reach, often overhead
  • Ability to grasp, lift, or carry items weighing up to 50 lbs, occasionally waist high
