  • Have sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college courses work with a grade C or better
  • Online Substitute Training Course STEDI ($49.95 fee) with a composite passing score of at least 80% (http://www.stedi.org/)
  • Two Professional References

  • High school diploma/GED
  • GACE Paraprofessional Assessment; and Online Substitute Training Course STEDI ($49.95 fee) with a composite passing score of at least 80% (http://www.stedi.org/)

  • Valid Professional Standards Commission-approved Paraprofessional certificate

The DeKalb County School District is currently seeking highly motivated and enthusiastic individuals to work as Substitute Paraprofessionals in schools throughout the district for the 2026-2027 school year.

Title: Paraprofessional Substitute

As a substitute, you will perform the duties of the permanent classroom paraprofessional. Knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics is preferred.

Essential Functions

The following duties are representative for this position. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • In accordance with lesson plans developed by the teacher, provides small group and/or individualized instruction to students.
  • Assists teachers with daily classroom management activities designed to ensure that students demonstrate behavior that is conducive to an effective learning environment.
  • Assists teachers with assessment of student performance (standardized and non-standardized testing) and other recordkeeping tasks.
  • Assists teachers with the development and organization of appropriate instructional materials for use with students and ensures the availability of these materials prior to scheduled instructional segments.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours of college courses completed with a grade C or better or higher from a Professional Standards Commission approved accredited college or university is required
  • or -
  • High school diploma/GED and a passing score on the Georgia Assessments for the Certification of Educators (GACE) Paraprofessional Assessment is required.
