Job Description

The Center for Inclusive Excellence in Teaching (CIET) at the College of the Holy Cross invites applications for a Postdoctoral Center Fellow to contribute toward evidence-based pedagogical and curricular projects that support faculty engagement in professional development in teaching, to begin as soon as possible. The Fellowship provides an opportunity to work with faculty across the disciplines in a small liberal arts college committed to inclusive excellence in teaching. The CIET Fellow will be expected to contribute to the Center’s core programming and will be mentored and supported in publishing scholarly work based on their contributions to the Center’s programs. They will have the opportunity to learn about program development, qualitative assessment, the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL), and other areas that can be carried forward into a range of academic and non-academic careers. The CIET Fellow will teach one course per year and be provided with a professional development stipend.

This position offers full benefits and a starting salary of $70,000. The appointment will be for an initial period of two years and may be eligible for renewal for one additional year, subject to review based on the Center's ongoing priorities and needs. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Developing and/or leading workshops and Center resources on a range of topics such as course and syllabus design, learning-centered assignments, and critical pedagogy.
  • Contributing to the development of the Center’s Inclusive excellence in teaching and learning “curriculum.”
  • Developing a SoTL project aligned with the Center’s mission

Qualifications

  • PhD or equivalent doctoral degree (not ABD) required by the start of the appointment
  • 1 or more years of experience as a graduate teaching fellow at a Center for teaching and learning or equivalent experience.
  • One to two years of teaching experience at the college or university level.
  • Demonstrable professional and pedagogical commitment to equity, and a passion for cultivating a vibrant, inclusive teaching and learning community.
  • Demonstrable understanding of inclusive pedagogy, assessment design, and course development.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, and the ability to engage various audiences.
  • Empathetic, active listening skills and open-minded engagement.
  • Strong collaboration skills.

Desired qualifications:

  • Experience developing and/or facilitating pedagogical workshops.
  • Implementation of inclusive pedagogy, course design, and development into program development (such as faculty workshops, teaching consultations, conference workshops, invited presentations).
  • Knowledge of models of faculty development.
