Job Description

General Summary:

The candidate is preferred to reside in Illinois or Michigan as the territory covers the main cities across these states.

The Center Account Manager (CAM) will be responsible for achieving and maximizing territory sales goals by developing a strategic business plan, communicating thorough disease and product knowledge to healthcare professional customers (HCP’s), and utilizing effective and appropriate selling strategies. This role must understand market dynamics in a rare, complex disease state, demonstrate excellent judgment, and be motivated by the desire to improve patients' lives. This role will work cross-functionally within the sales/marketing team and compliantly across the entire organization (Managed Markets, Specialty Pharmacy, Patient Services, Medical, HR, Legal, Regulatory and Compliance teams).

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promotes safe and effective use of Vertex products, in accordance with the product label and with company training and policies
  • Provides relevant disease state and on-label product information
  • Interacts with Cystic Fibrosis stakeholders in assigned geography
  • Responsible for individual performance at the territory level and contribute to area and national team performance
  • Demonstrated passion for improving Cystic Fibrosis patient care delivery and strong customer orientation and insight
  • Ensures appropriate and targeted resource allocation to meet customer needs with a focus on compliance
  • Stays current on the Cystic Fibrosis environment; knowledge of disease, key accounts, reimbursement, and barriers to optimal care
  • Responsible for managing tactical business plan, including promotional activities for customers; budget and travel expenses
  • Works collaboratively across functional areas to achieve common goals and address challenges
  • Attends and participates in meetings, and take on projects and other duties, as requested by management.
  • Exercises sound judgment and adheres to relevant regulatory and compliance guidelines and company policies

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Valid driver’s license, in good standing
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex clinical disease/products
  • Utilizes a consultative and clinical sales approach
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to excel in an innovative environment; takes initiative, and has a strong work ethic
  • Demonstrates passion for improving CF patient care, strong customer orientation and insight
  • Demonstrates team-based skills and can work cross functionally
  • Embraces continuous learning/seeks knowledge, and new technologies, and approaches
  • Demonstration of Vertex CAM core competencies; Clinical Acumen, Selling Skills, Business Acumen, and Customer Relationships
  • Mastery of the disease state and all clinical data
  • Mastery of all core sales competencies
  • Mastery with knowledge of CF Center business and Payer landscape
  • Mastery of customer relationships and consistently viewed as a trusted partner with HCP’s
  • Exemplifies business integrity, ethical behavior and Vertex Values
  • Documented history of sales success (rankings, awards, annual evaluations, etc.)

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Typically requires 5 years of field sales experience in Pharmaceutical Industry and experience in Cystic Fibrosis, rare disease, or other biotech/specialty markets, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

Pay Range:

$136,000 - $204,000

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
