The PRCR Department plays a leading role in the quality of life and character of the Capital City. City of Raleigh maintains and operates multiple historical cemeteries throughout the city along with 10,000 acres of land, 220 parks, and 120 miles of greenway trails. The Parks Department provides a wide range of facilities, amenities, and programs that support the social, cultural, mental and physical well-being of citizens. The Department is guided by a comprehensive 20-year System Plan that identifies the overall vision of Bringing People to Parks and Parks to People.

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department is seeking candidates that align with the City's values, is team-oriented with a passion and vision for grounds maintenance and serving the community.

Examples of duties

The part-time maintenance worker will be assigned to parks cemetery maintenance, which is a 5-member team consisting of three maintenance workers, one gardener, and a crew supervisor. The objective of the part-time cemetery maintenance worker is to provide outstanding customer service maintaining the historic cemeteries with high standards for quality and safety.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mowing, edging, blowing, trimming, mulching, debris pickup, trash pick up and leaf removal;
  • Weeding by hand or tools,
  • Installing and watering plants;
  • Operates machinery, including a Zero-Turn mower, string trimmer, Edger, pruners, & backpack blowers
  • Attends all required safety trainings, and participates in team building activities
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications

The successful Maintenance Worker will communicate well, be reliable, safety conscious, and possess a strong work ethic. It is important for this position to have a keen awareness of good customer service and public image, and high standards for quality of work.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or GED

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully

perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless

otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.

Licensing/Certifications

A Valid NC Class "C" Driver's License with a clean driving record.

The primary work location is 120 Prospect Avenue Raleigh NC 27603

Summer Schedule: 7:30 am - 4:00 pm regular schedule, 6:00 am - 2:30 pm.
