Position Summary:
Under the direction of the Executive Director or Executive in charge, the Aquatics Director is responsible for the development, implementation, supervision, administration and evaluation of the aquatics department. Duties include staff supervision, program oversight, development, and facility operations. The Aquatics Director ensures the aquatics experience is safe, fun, and enjoyable for members and program participants. Key deliverables for this position include safety and risk management of our aquatic environment, high-quality drowning prevention, and swim lesson programming.
Essential Functions:
1. The position will implement new engagement activities, incentive programs, and special events.
2. Overall, the position will ensure quality swim instruction, aquatic programs, and member satisfaction.
3. Efficiently market their department with goals to increase program participation.
4. Teach aquatic exercise, swim instruction or lifeguard as needed.
5. Ensure pool facilities and equipment are safe, clean and operating correctly.
6. Ensure compliance with YMCA, State, and Local regulations.
7. Assume key team leader responsibilities including budget development and meeting goals of the organization.
8. Supervise and develop staff in accordance with the organization’s policies, mission and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, training, planning and assigning work, appraising performance, addressing and resolving issues.
9. Promptly respond to member and participant needs and manage complaints in a courteous, patient manner using active listening and problem-solving techniques.
10. Accurately maintain participant records and other documentation in accordance with department requirements. Compile program statistics, while monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of and participation in program areas.
11. Create and maintain positive relationships with the staff, members, participants, and children while providing motivational support and guidance.
12. Coordinate use of aquatic facilities for program activities and events.
13. Uphold the core values of the YMCA when working with people within the YMCA facilities and community.
14. Participate and recruit staff, members, vendors and program participants in financial development efforts such as the Annual Giving Campaign.
15. Perform other duties as assigned.

QualificationsQUALIFICATIONS
1. College or technical degree is preferred. Competitive swimming experience is a plus.
2. Proven previous experience in supervisory position, must work both independently and as part of a cohesive team.
3. Certification as lifeguard, CPR and first aid required, must have completed prior to hire.
4. Instructional certification to teach lifeguarding and CPR/First aid within 6 months of hire.
5. YMCA swim instructor training will also be required.
6. CPO certification is a plus, must have completed prior to hire.
7. Must be able to relate well to children and adults and must have the ability to multi-task.
8. Must have a high level of communication skills including excellent verbal and written communication and active listening skills.
9. Experience creating and managing a fiscal budget is preferred.
10. Ability to work a flexible schedule to include evenings and weekends.
