This position includes construction labor, equipment operation, and truck driving of ordinary difficulty and responsibility. Independent and responsible judgement is required while conducting specified duties, although some work is performed under supervision.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates a variety of equipment such as automobiles, pick-up trucks, dump trucks, medium rated loaders and similarly rated vehicles or equipment.
- Will haul merchandise, equipment and supplies as directed.
- Performs semi-skills labor associated with Public Works maintenance and construction activities.
- Maintains all operating equipment in good operating condition.
- May operate trucks, plows and snow blowers during snow and ice removal.
- Requires overtime, both scheduled and non-scheduled.
- Makes minor repairs and adjustments to equipment.
- Services specialized equipment by adjusting belts, oiling, and greasing as needed.
- Additional duties as assigned.
QualificationsKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of the methods, operations, use and maintenance of equipment including vehicles.
- Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the operations of heavy equipment.
- Knowledge of the operating principles.
SKILLS
- Skill in utilizing automotive equipment.
- Skill in operation of Public Works maintenance equipment.
- Skills in oral and written communication.
ABILITIES
- Ability to plan and prioritize to meet county deadlines.
- Ability to prepare documents in response to complaints and inquiries.
- Ability to take initiative in routine maintenance matters.
- Ability to keep detailed reports.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- 6 months – 1 year of truck driving experience/operating heavy equipment preferred but not required.
- CDL License
- Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license along with a clean MVR check.

Work Environment: The work is typically performed in a shop or outdoors. The employee is exposed to noise, dirt, dust, pollen, odors, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, traffic hazards, machinery with moving parts, inclement weather, wetness, humidity, and rain. The work may require protective devices such as masks and gloves.
