Job Description

The Staff RN uses the nursing process to deliver nursing care to a given patient care population as it relates to the care setting. Nursing care is based on the interpretation and execution of the medical and nursing plan of treatment utilizing established procedures standards and protocols of individuals within the assigned work shift. The Staff RN provides nursing care to the population served in the unit.

Department Specific Competencies

  • Conducts a pre-admit assessment on all Chemical Dependency patients utilizing the Patient Health Questionnaire.

  • Screens prospective patients for medical conditions that would require immediate medical treatment prior to admission to the program.

  • Identifies need for and initiates referrals to appropriate departments and/or agencies to achieve patient care goals.

  • Informs patients of all necessary information, referrals, and procedures needed at the time of appointment

  • Acts as a resource to staff, patients, physicians and families regarding Medicare guidelines, unit policies and nursing procedures as well as hospital policies/procedures.

  • Adheres to policies, procedures, and standards of practice to deliver safe and optimal care

  • Identifies patient’s physical and psychosocial needs and formulates a plan in collaboration with the patient and health team members.

  • Assesses learning needs and provides follow up per protocols for quality of life issues.

  • Provides opportunity for verbalization of concerns

  • Audits CD charts to ensure completeness of treatment plan and continuity of care.
