Job Description

Performs medical assisting functions to support the provision of care within the physician department. Interacts with patients, families, and staff members to maximize successful patient outcomes.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of clinical experience in a healthcare setting including practical experience in patient care, administrative tasks, and laboratory procedures.
  • Possess a valid certification as a Certified Medical Assistant.
  • Comprehensive understanding of healthcare practices, as well as excellent teaching skills.

Requirements

Certified Medical Assistant Instructors are responsible for training students in all aspects of medical assisting, using a combination of classroom instruction, lab work, and clinical practice.

Their duties and responsibilities include:

  • Developing and implementing lesson plans according to curriculum guidelines
  • Teaching students about a variety of medical tasks, including drawing blood, administering injections, verifying medications and allergies, taking patient histories, and recording vital signs
  • Providing instruction on administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments, maintaining patient records, and billing procedures
  • Ensuring students are aware of and adhere to healthcare laws and ethics
  • Assessing student performance through tests, assignments, and practical examinations
  • Providing feedback and guidance to students to improve their skills and knowledge
  • Coordinating with clinical sites to arrange student placements for practical experience
  • Maintaining accurate student records and tracking student progress
  • Assist students with CCMA test preparation
  • Develop, tracking and maintain CMA, RMA and CCMA competencies through the hospital system.

  • Keeping up to date with developments in the field of medical assisting and updating course materials as necessary
  • Ensuring classroom and lab equipment are kept in good working condition

Clinical: Frequently lifts up to 35 pounds independently. Frequently pushes/pulls 100 pounds using mechanical and other assistive devices. Walks, stands, kneels, bends most of the time. Exhibits fine motor skills and manual dexterity necessary to perform the essential job functions of the position. Visual acuity correctable to 20/20. Color vision is necessary. Normal hearing acuity.

Exposure Category I: Employee at risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.

QUALITY IMPROVEMENT

Maintains current knowledge of the hospital-wide Quality Improvement Program.
Collaborates with management to improve the effectiveness of the department through the Quality Improvement plans and processes.

  • Participates in the departmental and hospital-wide Quality Improvement activities as directed by the manager.
  • COMPLIANCE
  • Adheres to the federal, state, and local statutes and regulations.
  • Adheres to the Compliance Program policies and procedures of DECH/CCH.
  • Adheres to all Privacy and Security policies and procedures of DECH/CCH.
  • Communicates any concern related to compliance issues to manager of department or Compliance Officer.
  • Communicates any concern related to confidentiality issues to the Privacy Officer.

Down East Community Hospital was incorporated on January 5, 1960 and after the hospital was constructed, the one-story hospital with thirty six beds and ten bassinets welcomed its first patient on December 2, 1964.
