Job Description

Tangentyere Council Aboriginal Corporation (TCAC) is a community controlled Public Benevolent Institution delivering human services and social enterprise activities for the benefit of Aboriginal people from the Alice Springs Town Camps, urban Alice Springs, and Central Australia.

Tangentyere Early Childhood Education (ECE) is an innovative and unique program that supports Aboriginal children to achieve positive outcomes in education, safety, and wellbeing in the Alice Springs Greater Region.

The Early Childhood Playworker will be part of a small, dynamic team tasked with improving access to Early Childhood Education (ECE) for children in the 0-5-year-old age group living on Town Camps.

To be successful in this role you will be able to support ECE programs to children and parents/carers that complement those currently being delivered across 8Town Camps.

You will love children and be motivated to ensure they get the best possible start to their education journey by accessing maximum ECE support.

Applying your strong cultural competency skills, you will enjoy the challenges of working with children and parent/carers who for a variety of reasons have not been able to access Early Childhood Education services at all or for a limited period only. And in partnership with parents and carers as well as other Early Childhood Education providers, your mission is to prepare children and their families for the transition to primary education.

You will also appreciate the flexibilities working part time provides to help attain the right work-life balance and improved quality of life.

As part of your role, you will be working with children, people with a disability and people who are vulnerable. It is your obligation to always ensure their safety and report any concerns in line with our duty of care obligations. We have zero tolerance when it comes to abuse of any kind and will take disciplinary action, including and up to termination of employment, should we determine that abuse has taken place or there has been a failure to report any suspected or alleged abuse.

Responsibilities

• Deliver and support Early Childhood Education Supported Playgroup Program (ECESPP) in Town Camps per Schedule.

• Working collaboratively with Educators in Playgroups sessions within the Playworker role

• Support Early Childhood Education Coordinator and Educators in Excursions / Healthy Families Day

• Create a safe and engaging community space through assisting in suitable activities and programs

• Build positive and meaningful relationships with parents, children, school staff and stakeholders.

• Contribute to practices in Playgroups sessions and child’s interests to promote positive learning.

• Attend Trainings as directed

• Assist with achieving quality management objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving safeguarding objectives across the organisation.

• Assist with achieving compliance objectives across the organisation.

• Other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications and Selection Criteria

Required

• Live in a Town Camp.

• Identify with the local community.

• Have a commitment to working in the Community.

• Oral and written communication.

• Current First Aid Certificate or commitment to obtain.

• Current NT Drivers Licence, NT Working with Children (Ochre) Card, satisfactory Police Check, and proof of full (3) vaccination against COVID-19.

Desired

• Previous experience working with indigenous organisations.
