Job Summary

Reporting to the IQA Team Leader, the IQA Inspector is responsible for ensuring supplied components meet Caterpillar quality requirements and engineering specifications. The role involves dimensional inspection, interpretation of technical drawings, operation of metrology equipment and collaboration with quality, engineering and manufacturing teams to support product quality and continuous improvement.

Please note that after Metrology competency requirements are met the role will progress to an L4 position. Shift working, occasionally with no supervision.

What You Will Do

  • Apply safety-driven principles in all work activities.
  • Inspect supplied components and assemblies to verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications and company quality standards.
  • Carry out dimensional inspections using a range of measuring equipment, including three-axis Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), surface finish equipment, optical measurement systems and hand gauges.
  • Create and run CMM programs and measurement plans to support component verification.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, geometric tolerances, technical standards and specifications to determine inspection requirements.
  • Produce accurate inspection reports and maintain quality records using systems including EtQ, SharePoint, Teamcenter, CREO and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Support quality investigations and continuous improvement activities, working collaboratively with Supplier Quality, Engineering and Manufacturing teams.

What You Have

  • Experience using precision measurement equipment within a manufacturing, quality or engineering environment.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, tolerances, technical specifications and applicable standards.
  • Knowledge of first-principle measurement techniques, table work and basic defect identification.
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage your own workload and work independently.
  • Experience with dimensional inspection and quality processes. Knowledge of CMM operation or programming, surface texture measurement or other advanced metrology techniques would be advantageous.
