The Cath Lab Technologist is a key member of the cardiovascular team, supporting physicians in performing diagnostic and interventional cardiac procedures in a fast-paced outpatient setting. This role is responsible for patient preparation, sterile field management, hemodynamic monitoring, and assisting physicians throughout procedures to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative ASC environment and is committed to delivering exceptional patient outcomes in a growing, cardiac-focused ambulatory surgery center.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Preparation & Monitoring

  • Prepare and position patients for cardiovascular procedures in accordance with ASC protocols
  • Apply and monitor EKG, hemodynamic, and vital sign equipment throughout procedures
  • Assess and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
  • Ensure patient comfort, safety, and privacy at all times

Procedure Assistance

  • Assist physicians during procedures including coronary angiography, angioplasty, and stent placement
  • Perform scrub duties, including sterile setup, gowning, and maintaining a sterile field
  • Handle catheters, guidewires, and procedural instruments while anticipating physician needs
  • Prepare contrast media, pressure lines, and supplies based on physician preference

Equipment & Room Management

  • Operate fluoroscopy and imaging equipment in compliance with radiation safety standards
  • Perform equipment checks, calibration, and quality control
  • Prepare procedure rooms for cases and assist with efficient room turnover
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure readiness for daily case load

Diagnostic & Interventional Support

  • Support a range of outpatient cardiovascular procedures including:
    • Coronary angiography
    • Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI)
    • Peripheral vascular procedures
    • Structural heart interventions (as applicable)
  • Accurately record and document hemodynamic data and procedural findings

Post-Procedure Care

  • Assist with sheath removal and post-procedure monitoring per ASC protocol
  • Monitor recovery and report complications or concerns to the care team
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions
  • Assist with patient transport and care transitions

Emergency Response

  • Respond quickly and effectively to complications or emergencies during procedures
  • Support resuscitation efforts and maintain readiness for critical events

Minimum Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Previous radiologic technologist or cardiovascular technologist work experience or is a graduate of an accredited Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist/Technologist (CVIS) training program.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of Cath Lab or invasive cardiovascular experience preferred

Certifications

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required
  • ACLS certification preferred or required within a designated timeframe
  • RCIS (Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist) certification preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics
  • Proficiency in EKG interpretation and cardiovascular monitoring
  • Knowledge of sterile technique and infection control practices
  • Familiarity with fluoroscopy and radiation safety protocols
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced outpatient surgical environment with a high level of attention to detail

Work Environment

  • Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) with a multispecialty, cardiac-focused program
  • Fast-paced outpatient setting with a consistent procedural schedule
  • Exposure to radiation and sterile environments
  • Requires standing for extended periods and use of protective equipment

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to the Director of Nursing and/or Cath Lab Manager
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary care team
