Position Title: Cath Lab Technologist Position Code: CathLabTch-6036

Department: Cardiac Cath Lab Safety Sensitive: YES

Reports to: Director, Cardiac Cath Lab Exempt Status: NO

Position Purpose:

Under the general supervision of the Cath Lab Supervisor or Chief Tech, provides patient services by operating imaging modalities during angiographic/cardiac cath procedures. Customers Served: Patients (neonate to geriatric) referred by licensed physicians or others as approved by hospital policy.

· Delivers quality service and positive interaction with our customers while performing the tasks within this job description. Assumes care for physical needs of the patient during examinations and procedures

· Operates imaging equipment, scrubs and assists physicians in the detection and localization of patient anatomy during diagnostic and interventional procedures within the Cardiac Cath lab

· Provides protection to patients, family members and self in accordance with radiation safety standards. Observes patient and equipment during procedures, documents patient reactions or problems on requisitions and reports immediately to supervisor.

· Records key events occurring during the procedures and enters procedures and supplies via the physiologic computer system. Monitor and records ECG and pressure waveforms during the procedure

· Assists physician in detection and localization of patient anatomy utilizing proper positioning and establishment of appropriate technical factors and sterile technique.

· Rotates and Participates “On Call” when scheduled. Assists in additional coverage when applicable.

· Assists with the care and maintenance of equipment and supplies. Cleans assigned area and maintains stock supply through inventory control.

Qualifications [Statements regarding minimum educational and experience qualifications, required proficiencies with specialized knowledge, computer proficiencies, military service, required certifications, etc.]

Education Completion of Radiological Technologist program, approved by the council on Medical Education of the AMA, and ACR.

Licensure: Current registration and licensure by the Arizona Medical Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners, American Registry of Radiological Technologists(R)

Certifications: BLS through the American Heart Association (AHA)

ACLS through the American Heart Association (AHA) required within 3 months of hire date

Experience: Minimum two (2) years’ experience performing angiographic procedures

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

This individual must possess broad experience in Special Procedures to include angiography and interventional angiography. Effective human relations skills are required for interfacing with physicians, patients and all levels of the hospital staff, and demonstrates behaviors consistent with those identified as the KHI core behaviors

Preferences [Preferred attributes for the position which are not absolutely required in the minimum qualifications (i.e., multi-lingual, master’s degree)]

· Licensure preferred in ARRT (CT), ARRT (MR), ARRT (M) CVT

· Cath lab experience preferred

· Category II: Expected duties have possible, but not routine, potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues

· Other Hazard(s): Radiation Exposure

Work Requirements [Optional section: work requirements for physical or other important issues which relate to the job]

· Carrying up to 35 lbs, lifting up to 50 lbs, pushing up to 300lbs.

· Standing and walking for periods of longer than 2 hours.

· Manual dexterity in handling fragile wires and catheters

· Concentration, visual and auditory acuity for watching monitors and following instructions during procedures.

· Sitting, standing and walking to assist as needed.
