LOCATION: DISTRICT WIDEPOSITION: CATERING/CAFETERIA WORKERJOB QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Qualifications:

  • 18 years of age or older
  • Must have valid Texas driver's license and clean driving history
  • Ability to communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to perform basic Math
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions with standardized recipes, food preparation and safety procedures
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment and food production procedures

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Ability to perform the different tasks related to food preparation
  • Ability to operate large and small kitchen equipment and tools
  • Ability to promote teamwork and interaction with fellow staff members
  • Ability to operate computer registerREQUIRED EXPERIENCE: JOB DESCRIPTION: Primary Functions: To assist the district's Catering Department in providing excellent catered events through quality meals, appealing setups, efficient service, professionalism and customer service. Maintains high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices. Secondary Functions (when catering assistance is not required): To assist the district's goals by improving the alertness and morale of students by serving students attractive and nutritious meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and friendliness. Maintains high standards of quality in food production, sanitation, and safety practices.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Assists the Catering Manager with all Catering Department functions
  • Assist in the preparation, delivery, setup, service, and clean-up of food and other supplies according to the Catering Department's scheduled events
  • Utilize various cooking methods, kitchen equipment, and recipes to prepare food for scheduled caterings.
  • Work occasional extended hours and some weekends, as needed, to fulfill district catering requests.
  • Ability to work flex hours and summer hours, as needed.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and excellent customer service in the kitchen and at all catered events.
  • Maintain a valid Food Handler Certification or Food Safety Manager Certification.
  • Operate district transport vehicles safely.
  • Travel to other district campuses, as needed, to assist with kitchen operations when assistance is not needed in the Catering Department.
  • Assist in the preparation of food according to daily menu, recipe, and production sheets.
  • Prepare and serve students and staff from the cafeteria serving area.
  • Remove used dishes, assist in the cleaning of counters, and equipment in the preparation area.
  • Maintain the trash in garbage collection area in a neat and sanitary fashion.
  • Organize students into orderly lines for purchasing food, disposal of food waste, trays, and utensils.
  • Help students develop wise choices in the area of nutrition.
  • Informs any attending teacher at once of any serious infraction in disciplinary rules by students.
  • Calls immediately for an attending teacher or administrator in the event of any arguments, confrontations or disruptions.
  • Daily attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned.

OTHER INFORMATION: Equipment Used

Cooking utensils, steam table, commercial ovens, can opener, bread mixer, mixers, blenders, steamer, heating cabinet, stoves, ice maker, microwave, slicer, food processor, freezers, refrigerator and computer registers.

Mental & Physical Demands/Environmental Factors

Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; accuracy in completing assigned tasks, ability to maintain emotional control under stress. Available to work some early mornings, late evenings, and weekends. Must be easily accessible during off-hours. Patience and tolerance, repetitive hand and elbow motions, standing, walking, climbing, bending, carry, push-pull, lowering and lifting 50+ lbs. This position requires going into walk-in-freezers and refrigerators, exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, and occasionally working outdoors.APPLY TO: www.swisd.net
