Job Description

Performs a variety of food service related duties within Catering, including washing dishes, cleaning and organizing kitchen, and receiving and stocking. Responsible for setups for a multitude of catering events in the hall and across campus.

Essential Functions:

  • Washes and stocks service wares before, during, and after meal periods. Ensures finished wares are clean and sanitized.
  • Performs daily cleaning assignments and routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Performs food preparation according to departmental standards. Follows “Serve Safe guidelines” in regards to food preparation and service.
  • Adheres to uniform dress code.
  • Follows inventory and stocking system; ensures that supplies are properly stored and organized in work station areas; product to be prepared and rotated FIFO. Assists cooks in receiving and stocking of product deliveries.
  • Participates in set up, service and breakdown of assigned work areas and catered events.
  • Regularly moves & sets up tables & chairs along with staging & other items weighing as much as 80 lbs. in catering hall for a multitude of catering events in the hall.
  • Assists the chef/cooks with culinary duties if necessary. Assists with catering service when necessary. Other duties as assigned.

Work Schedule: Hours may vary based on the needs of the event or department.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Experience in a commercial kitchen environment is preferred.
  • ServSafe certification or willingness to acquire within six months of employment date is required.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced work environment.
  • Must be committed to following departmental standards and guidelines to ensure the safety of self and others particularly in regards to lifting heavy items weighing up to 80 pounds.

Physical Requirements

  • Fine Motor Manipulation: Picking, pinching, typing or otherwise working, primarily with fingers rather than with whole hand or arm as in handling.

  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.

  • Repetitive motions: Making substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles.

  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.

  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

  • Standing: Remaining upright on the feet, particularly for sustained periods of time.

  • Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.

  • Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.

  • Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion.

  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles.

Working Conditions:

  • The worker is subject to both environmental conditions: Activities occur inside and outside.

  • The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

  • The worker is subject to oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

Type of Work: Heavy work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Non-Exempt, Full Time, Benefit Eligible

Compensation:

The expected pay rate for this position is between $20.49 - $22.34 per hour. Offers are based on factors such as qualifications, relevant experience, skills, internal equity, and market and organizational considerations.
