Job Description

Stew Leonard’s, a family-owned and operated fresh food store founded in 1969, has locations in Connecticut, New York, and New Jersey. Stew’s earned its nickname, the “Disneyland of Dairy Stores” because of its country-fair atmosphere, with costumed characters and animated entertainment throughout the store that keep children entertained while parents shop.

Catering Assistant

Part Time Hourly – $17.50 - $18.00 per hour

Must be at least 18 years and older

Position Description:

Assist with the activities of the Catering Department. Work with the Catering team in order to provide excellence in customer service, drive sales and maximize profitability.

Your day-to-day:

  • Solicit, secure and coordinate catering orders of thousands of customers a year, including large organizations like churches, temples, corporations, community relief agencies, etc.
  • Take orders, answer phones, assist customers, suggestive selling
  • Actively work to expand the catering customer base by meeting with new businesses, circulating business cards and menus, collecting email addresses, and soliciting new accounts
  • Plan and execute both in-house and off- premise catering events, such as annual department appreciation dinners, etc. for as many as 600 guests
  • Conduct site tours for off-premise events
  • Coordinate delivery schedules with Security for van transport
  • Work with outside staffing and rental companies to coordinate needs for events

What you bring to the team:

  • Culinary certification and/or hospitality degree preferred
  • Sales Experience
  • Qualified Food Operator certification
  • Proficiency in the use of Excel, Word, labor scheduling and other proprietary applications
  • Flexible
  • Willing to commute between East Meadow and Farmingdale Locations
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Sound decision making and analytical skills
  • Strong suggestive selling skills and negotiation ability
  • Ability to lead, work and function within a team environment

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires frequent walking, standing, reaching, and occasional pulling, pushing, squatting, and lifting with a maximum of 50lbs
  • This position requires frequent exposure to grease, oil, and extreme heat (non-weather related) and occasional exposure to smoke, noise, and weather
