1Manages the procurement process that includes vendor selection (sourcing), purchasing, order management (tracking and expediting) that results in timely delivery of equipment and materials at the best Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). Coordinates transportation and logistic of goods. Promotes process standardization, compliance, and maximized use of Chevron’s preferred suppliers.

Supports clients/customers and assists with functional projects under regular supervision. Has a general knowledge of the work group.

The Category Specialist, Chemicals Direct, is part of the SCM Asia Pacific & Middle East team supporting the Manufacturing Business. This role reports to the Procurement Team Lead and is responsible developing and executing category strategies for procurement of commodity and specialty chemicals and providing category management support and coordination to Chevron Japan Limited (Oronite).

The Category Specialist will establish long and short-term category strategies in alignment with business needs, provide commercial guidance to business units and supports benchmarking activities to deliver leading performance. This role will drive cost management initiatives, manage strategic sourcing efforts, lead negotiations and deliver supplier relationship management approaches to improve commercial and operational performance. To be successful, this role will require close collaboration and positive relationship building with management, business stakeholders, global/regional/local SCM team and external vendors to deliver commercial value in support of Chevron’s business objectives.

The ideal candidate thinks strategically, exhibits strong leadership and interpersonal skills, and is collaborative but also works with significant autonomy; a strong individual who can drive category strategies and has proven track record of managing multiple initiatives and driving them to completion to meet business objectives; communicates effectively and strong ability to influence business stakeholders and suppliers at all levels and have a high level of professionalism, customer focus and business judgement.

Responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:

  • Purchase of Raw Materials, Components, and maintaining supply/service contracts.
  • Working within and across business units to ensure category management principles, strategies, and processes are applied to maximize value to Chevron.
  • Develop annual category and contracting plans that are aligned with business plan objectives.
  • Ensure the appropriate application of Category Management principles, negotiation strategies, advanced supplier relationship strategies, and procurement processes and procedures.
  • Accountable for developing sourcing strategies, negotiations, contract formulation, and supplier relationship management.
  • Responsible for Supplier Qualification (SQ) process including Compliance assurance and supplier site evaluations.
  • Ongoing supplier and contract management: Develop supplier relationships to ensure that cost reduction, value creation, and innovation are ongoing activities.
  • Maintain a close relationship with the Oronite stakeholders to understand needs and support the overall business strategy. Trusted advisor to the business unit.
  • Facilitate stakeholder engagements with strategic suppliers and Oronite stakeholders.
  • Monitor market dynamics and develop price outlook messaging for the Oronite Commercial Team.
  • Work with stakeholders and suppliers to identify and execute opportunities that deliver value to the business.
