Job Description

Position: Category Planner – Indoor
Department: Supply Chain Management
Salary: $70,000- $85,000 per year
Location: Chilliwack, British Columbia
About Rainbow Greenhouses
Rainbow Greenhouses supplies national retailers and independent growers across North America with year-round live goods. With over 5 million sq. ft. of greenhouse space in BC and Alberta, we operate advanced, resource-efficient growing systems powered by skilled, hands-on teams. Our workforce scales seasonally from 500 to 1,000+ employees across multiple provinces. At Rainbow, we grow plants, people, and partnerships with long-term success in mind.
About the Opportunity
The Category Planner – Indoor is a strategic, cross-functional role responsible for translating market demand into integrated planning for production, procurement, and inventory plans for the Indoor category. As part of the Supply Chain Management department, this role sits at the centre of Sales, Horticulture, and Operations, ensuring that programs are commercially viable, operationally feasible, and executed effectively.

This position plays a critical role in building scalable planning systems and processes to support Rainbow Greenhouses’ long-term growth objectives. On a day-to-day level, this role ensures that materials and inputs are procured on time, production schedules are aligned with operational capacity, and supplier relationships are effectively managed. The position also provides guidance and mentorship to procurement team members while supporting continuous improvement in planning and purchasing processes.
What You'll Do
  • Own the Indoor category end-to-end — assortment, innovation, and performance — driving availability, sell-through, inventory health, and shrink
  • Translate sales forecasts into actionable production and procurement plans aligned with capacity, timing, and inventory risk
  • Develop and maintain integrated production and supply plans in ERP, partnering with Operations to resolve scheduling challenges and optimize throughput
  • Ensure all required inputs (plant material, media, containers, etc.) are available in line with production schedules
  • Lead sourcing strategy for plant material and key indoor inputs, including genetics selection with Sales and Horticulture based on commercial viability and growing feasibility
  • Negotiate pricing, terms, and supply agreements, ensuring supplier diversification, risk mitigation, and continuity of supply
  • Lead continuous improvement of planning systems, tools, and processes, including crop requirement libraries, grow-time assumptions, and capacity/space planning
  • Maintain high data integrity within ERP systems and establish structured feedback loops between Sales, Horticulture, and Planning
  • Act as the central coordination point across Sales, Horticulture, Operations, and Logistics, validating program feasibility and supporting new product evaluation
  • Mentor Procurement and Planning team members, provide coverage across procurement activities, and drive process improvement
What You Bring
  • 15+ years of experience in category planning, supply chain, or procurement, ideally within horticulture, agriculture, or large-scale production
  • Strong understanding of demand planning, production scheduling, and inventory management
  • Experience working with live goods, plant genetics, or seasonal product cycles is a strong asset
  • Proven ability to analyze data and translate insights into actionable decisions
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with ERP systems
  • Strong negotiation, supplier management, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on in a fast-paced environment
  • Passion for our products, innovation, sustainability, and continuous improvement
What We Offer
  • Competitive wages that reflect your experience and the work you bring
  • Flexible benefits for full-time staff - choose the coverage that works for you
  • RRSP matching to help you build toward your future
  • Extended health and dental benefits, and mental health programs
  • A workplace that's a little greener than most — literally
  • Generous employee discount
  • A team that takes pride in what they grow - plants and people
Note: Incentive programs, benefits, and perks have certain eligibility requirements.

About Rainbow Greenhouses Inc

We're a full-service horticultural producer delivering live plants and value-added solutions to major retailers and independent partners across Western Canada and the Northwestern United States.

Rainbow started in 1985 as a family-led greenhouse guided by the Vander Waal's commitment to quality, relationships, and long-term growth. Today, with the confidence of our retail partners, the dedication of our teams, and the continued support of our customers, we continue to expand our operations.

We produce ornamental annuals, perennials, tropical foliage, indoor flowering plants, vegetable starters, and cut flowers on a commercial scale, using advanced systems across every stage of production. Spanning more than five million square feet of growing space in British Columbia and Alberta, our teams combine decades of horticultural expertise with precision systems that emphasize efficiency and deliver consistent results at scale.

We continue to innovate through automation, fertigation, and integrated pest management practices. These advancements help us support our teams, protect resources, and deliver high-quality plants year-round. Every system, from propagation and cultivation to distribution and merchandising, has been refined to provide our retail partners with a complete, full-service approach.

Our mission is to grow opportunities for plants, people, and partnerships. That means cultivating careers, building trusted relationships, and maintaining practices that strengthen both our operations and the resources we depend on.
