As a key member of Motiva’s Supply Chain team, the Category Manager – Rotating Equipment, plays a crucial role in leading the Rotating Equipment Category, including pumps, compressors, turbines, mechanical seals, motors, and related services. The role is responsible for sourcing strategy development, procurement execution, supplier and stakeholder relationship management, and continuous improvement to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective material availability for Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex operations.

This position collaborates closely with Maintenance, Turnaround, Reliability, Engineering, Warehouse Operations, and Motiva’s Supply Chain (SC) team to enhance value delivery, optimize third-party spend, ensure supply continuity, and drive process excellence. The Category Manager ensures Supply Chain is positioned as a strategic, value-adding business partner by proactively engaging stakeholders and suppliers, championing sourcing initiatives, and implementing Motiva’s Supply Chain policies, processes, procedures, and best practices. This position reports to Manager, Materials Category Management and sits in the Indirect & Materials Category team.

Responsibilities:

Category Management

  • Develops and executes comprehensive category strategies for rotating equipment and associated services (e.g., pumps, compressors, turbines, mechanical seals, motors, blowers and repair services) that align with overall business objectives and follow approved processes and sourcing strategy methodology
  • Establishes and Implements performance metrics to track supplier performance, cost competitiveness, asset reliability, turnaround execution, inventory optimization, and continuous improvement opportunities across the rotating equipment portfolio.
  • Conducts detailed spend analysis across equipment purchases, repairs, maintenance agreements, consignment inventory, and turnaround-related expenditures to identify value creation opportunities
  • Conducts market analysis through research on supplier capabilities, market trends, and pricing models, and benchmarks current pricing and supplier performance against industry standards to identify areas for improvement.
  • Brings proven expertise in strategic sourcing, contract management, negotiation, and contract execution to successfully deliver category objectives
  • Demonstrates strong presentation skills and effectively communicates with senior leadership and cross-functional business stakeholders

Value & Cost Optimization

  • Identifies and implements value chain improvements to maximize cost efficiency with a focus on added value delivery
  • Conducts economic and commercial analyses to support sourcing decisions and procurement events
  • Develops robust business cases for sourcing initiatives, supported by market data, commercial objectivity and relevant business and technical factors
  • Actively seeks and identifies opportunities for value creation (cost savings, cost avoidance, revenue enhancement) and risk reduction, within assigned categories.

Stakeholder Relationship Management

  • Engages proactively with key stakeholders from Maintenance, Turnaround, Reliability, Engineering, and Warehouse Operations to gather business requirements and specifications and incorporate into sourcing strategies, supplier selections and contract drafting
  • Works with the internal stakeholders, external third parties, and the Supply Chain team and continuously seeks to improve value delivery through a framework of Category Management
  • Promotes Procurement as a positive, significant, and value adding integral partner to Motiva

Supplier & OEM Management

  • Builds and maintains critical relationships with OEMS (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and service suppliers
  • Leads supplier performance management, including KPI tracking and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Serves as the escalation point for delivery, allocation, and complex performance or commercial issues
  • Experienced in driving value through innovative supplier collaboration is highly valued

Commercial Leadership & Negotiation

  • Leads complex sourcing initiatives and negotiations involving long-term service agreements, repair and maintenance contracts, consignment inventory programs, turnaround support, and performance-based commercial models to achieve measurable business outcomes.
  • Owns contract development, including pricing, commercial terms, and risk management
  • Manages internal strategy approval processes, aligning stakeholders and resolving escalations efficiently

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, or a related field
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in strategic procurement, supply chain, commercial negotiations, contract development, contract management, or related discipline, with exposure to rotating equipment in a refinery environment
  • 5+ years of experience in roles requiring strong knowledge of business processes in a commercial environment preferred
  • Experience working in an Operator or Owner environment with hands-on contract execution

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Master’s degree preferred (or recognized equivalent).
  • Strong understanding of SCM ERP/MRP systems; experience with Ariba or SAP
  • Supply chain experience supporting Refining and/or Chemicals
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry
  • Hands-on experience with rotating equipment categories such as compressors, turbines, pumps, blowers and mechanical seals
  • Technical understanding of rotating equipment (pumps, compressors, blowers, turbines, seals) and associated manufacturing processes preferred
