About the role

As a Casual Student Services Assistant, you’ll be an important first point of contact for students, staff and visitors at RMIT University Pathways (RMIT UP). You’ll provide friendly, professional and responsive customer service across our front-of-house operations.

You’ll respond to student enquiries in person, by phone, email and through our Student Management Platform, providing accurate information and connecting students with the right services and support when needed. You’ll also assist students with routine forms, appointments and navigating relevant systems and resources.

When things are quieter at reception, you’ll support the Student Services team with routine administration, data entry and maintaining accurate student records. You’ll work closely with colleagues across Student Services to help create a welcoming, inclusive and positive experience for our students.

This is a casual opportunity that would suit someone who enjoys working with people, is organised and reliable, and can adapt to the changing needs of a busy student-facing environment.

About You

You’re a friendly, approachable and service-focused person who enjoys helping others and creating positive experiences. You’ll be confident communicating with people from diverse cultural, linguistic and educational backgrounds and know when an enquiry can be handled directly and when it needs to be referred or escalated.

You’ll bring:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and a professional, welcoming manner.
  • A genuine commitment to providing high-quality customer service.
  • Good organisation, attention to detail and the ability to manage routine tasks accurately.
  • The ability to learn new systems, processes and procedures with training and support.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, email and online systems.
  • The ability to work collaboratively and contribute positively to a team environment.
  • An understanding of the importance of privacy, confidentiality and professional boundaries.
  • Reliability, punctuality and flexibility to support changing student and front-of-house needs.
  • A current Working with Children Check, or the ability to obtain one before commencing.

Previous experience in customer service, reception, hospitality, retail or another people-facing environment would be highly regarded. Experience working or studying in an education or multicultural environment would also be an advantage.
