of Duties:
- Under the direction of the supervisor of record, serves as the front of house lead for assigned performances and events. Responsible for the safety, comfort, and access of the audience from the time the lobby opens until the house is cleared and secured.
- Leads all front of house activity for assigned performances and events, including lobby and house readiness, ticket taking or scanning, will call, program distribution, seating, and lobby flow.
- Verifies life safety conditions before the house opens, including unobstructed and functional exits, working aisle and step lighting, and clear egress paths. Reports any deficiency to the supervisor of record and technical staff before admitting patrons.
- Ensures accessible seating, companion seating, and assistive listening devices are available and assigned.
- Assigns, briefs, and directs ushers, volunteers, and student assistants on seating, accessibility, customer service, and emergency procedures.
- Opens the lobby and house at the appropriate times and coordinates curtain timing, holds, and the seating of latecomers with the Stage Manager.
- Remains on duty in the lobby and house for the full run of the event, monitoring for patron needs, medical incidents, disruptive behavior, and unauthorized photography or recording.
- Serves as the designated front of house lead for audience evacuation and shelter procedures. Makes emergency announcements, directs patrons to safe exits, accounts for all public areas of the building, and coordinates with campus security, the Honolulu Fire Department, and emergency medical responders.
- Documents all incidents and submits a written report to the supervisor of record before leaving the building.
- Reports attendance counts, patron concerns, and facility or equipment deficiencies in writing to the supervisor of record.
- Returns issued equipment and materials and secures the lobby in coordination with technical staff.
- Represents Leeward Community College and Leeward Theatre to the public in a professional and welcoming manner, and applies College and University policies consistently across all clients and events.
- Performs other front of house duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Possession of a baccalaureate degree and 0 year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience in customer service in a venue, event, hospitality, or retail; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
- Functional knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of working with the public demonstrated by knowledge, understanding and ability to apply concepts and terminology.
- Functional knowledge and understanding of principles, theories, federal and state laws, rules, regulations and systems associated with theater or event management.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize problems, identify possible causes and resolve the full range of problems that may commonly occur in a public venue.
- Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation, write reports and procedures, and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team members and individuals.
- Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer, apply word processing software.
- Able to work days, evenings, and weekends as required.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and move through a darkened auditorium.
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior house management or front of house experience at a performing arts venue.
- Crowd manager training, or completion of a recognized assembly occupancy safety course.
- Familiarity with electronic ticketing and scanning systems.
- Experience supporting ADA accommodations and accessible seating.
- De-escalation or conflict resolution training.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
- Experience working with volunteers or student employees.
