Job Description

ROLE PURPOSE
This position will be responsible for food preparation, finishing and serving meals, maintenance and hygiene of work areas, checking and stocking of supplies. In charge of dishwashing and organizing work in the absence of the Bedford Manor Program Manager.

STATUS AND CLASSIFICATION
Union. This position is open to applicants of all genders.

SHIFT HOURS
This is a casual position with rotating shifts that may include 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, 9:30 AM to 6:00 PM, and 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, so candidates must be able to work a flexible schedule.

In addition, candidates are required to provide 8 full days of availability per month, which must include 2 Saturdays and 2 Sundays.

REPORTING AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
• Reports and is accountable to the Bedford Manor Program Manager or their designate.
• Function as a multi-disciplinary team member.
• Establish and maintain good interpersonal relations with residents, staff, visitors and volunteers, by displaying tact, courtesy and patience.
• Respect and maintain the spirit, dignity and individuality of residents and their families.
• Liaises with the staff and managers of Connective as necessary.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
• Perform all duties in relation to the preparation and distribution of food.
• Ensure food is prepared in accordance with dietary requirements of licensing bodies and resident preferences.
• Assist in menu planning for resident meals, and the planning and preparation of food for special functions.
• Ensure the maintenance, cleanliness and safety of work areas, storage, coolers, freezers, equipment and work surfaces.
• Check, receive and restock supplies, and place or check orders as required.
• Assist in dishwashing, cleaning, and in the dining room as required.
• In the absence of the Bedford Manor Chef, act as First Cook, managing the kitchen and organizing work and staff as efficiently as possible.
• Report any situations that may be considered unsafe or a health risk.
• Attend staff in-service and continuing education programs, and approved work-related conferences and seminars.
• Safely and efficiently operate all equipment associated with the duties of the position.
• Perform other related duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS
• Function independently, while remaining a crucial member of the support team.
• Carry out significant amounts of lifting, bending, stooping and stretching.
• Work within a social model approach.
• Adhere to Connective’s policies and procedures.
• Be available to work flexible hours during the daytime, evenings, and weekends based on operational needs and requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS
• BC Trade Qualification Diploma
• Experience in inventory control and food storage procedures
• Experience in a restaurant setting
• One (1) year recent related experience

• Criminal Records Checks
• Food Safe Level 1
• WHMIS
• Proof of vaccination for communicable diseases may be required as mandated by Government, Health Authority, and/or funder requirements.

Compensation
As Connective is a unionized environment, the starting wage is $25.55 per hour as per the collective agreement. The wage will increase with every 2,000 hours worked up to a maximum of $29.26 per hour.

Important: Candidates must be legally authorized to work in Canada, observe their weekly hours limit if under a temporary or study visa, and provide proof of eligibility if selected for the role.
