Local Government Reorganisation

The Government has confirmed that local government across Lancashire will be reorganised, with the current 15 councils being replaced by four new unitary councils covering North, South, East and West Lancashire from April 2028.

If you are successful in your application, you will initially join Lancashire County Council. However, as part of the planned transition, your employment will transfer to one of the new unitary councils from April 2028, subject to the implementation of the reorganisation and relevant employment legislation.

Shifts: 09:00–14:00, 09:00–12:00, 14:00–19:00 (Mon–Sun)

About the Role

We are seeking a reliable and detail‑focused Casual Domestic/Laundry Assistant to help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, staff, and visitors. This role provides flexible cover for sickness, holidays, and additional service demands.

Key Responsibilities

Domestic duties:

  • Clean communal areas, offices, bathrooms, corridors, and resident rooms.
  • Vacuum, mop, sweep, dust, and polish.
  • Clean bathrooms/toilets and replenish consumables.
  • Empty bins and manage waste.
  • Follow cleaning schedules and complete records.
  • Use cleaning chemicals/equipment safely.
  • Report maintenance issues.
  • Work effectively as part of the team.

Laundry duties:

  • Collect, sort, wash, dry, iron, and fold items.
  • Operate laundry equipment safely.
  • Follow correct procedures for soiled laundry.
  • Return items to the correct residents.
  • Maintain laundry room cleanliness.
  • Monitor and report low stock levels.

General:

  • Follow infection control, health & safety, and organisational policies.
  • Provide excellent customer service.

Person Specification

Essential:

  • Good attention to detail.
  • Able to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Reliable, punctual, and professional.
  • Understanding of health & safety and infection control.

Desirable:

  • Previous domestic/cleaning experience.
  • Experience in a care or healthcare environment.
