About This Opportunity

The School of Biomedical Sciences teaches into 14 undergraduate programs at The University of Queensland. Apply for a Casual Academic (demonstrator) position within our School if you would like to support teaching in the areas of anatomy, physiology, or pharmacology.

CasualAcademicsdemonstrators play a vital role in teaching and learning. The School of Biomedical Sciences employs demonstrators toassistteaching staff in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate Anatomy, Physiology and Pharmacology courses. 

High-achieving undergraduate students, postgraduatecourseworkand research higher degree students are invited to apply. TheSchoolalso welcomes applications from non-students whopossessappropriate qualifications

Selectionis on a combination of merit and School needs. Casual demonstrators appointed previously will only be re-appointed if prior performance has been exemplary. Please read the duty statement for information on the role and the selection criteriafor eligibility.

Applicants are asked toindicatetheir academic background, teachingexperienceand course preferences. This information will be considered in matching demonstrators to course requirements. Selections are made in consultation with Course Coordinators.

Most allocations occur before the beginning ofsemesterbut are not necessarily final until Week 3 ofsemester A demonstrator may see a reduction inallocatedhours or be assigned to a different course - this does notreflect onthe demonstrator involved as it is usually due to unresolved timetabling constraints or fluctuations in enrolments.

New applicants must be available for compulsory training sessions scheduled for the week prior to the start of semester. 

Casual Academics are appointedon the basis oftheir academic qualifications andexperience;they shouldpossessthe requisite knowledge for the course or the ability toacquiresuch through independent learning. All appointed demonstrators shouldfamiliarisethemselves with the lecture and practical material for their course prior to the commencement of classes.

The University will provide demonstrators with the following resources:

  • UQ staff username

  • UQ staff email address

  • UQ staff card (ifrequired)

  • access to course materials

  • access to photocopiers and printing facilities fortutoring purposes whererequired

These are casual appointments. As such, there is no firm advance commitment to ongoing or indefinite work. The casual rate will vary as per the work completed. Please click here to view our various casual academic pay scales.

Eligibility

You must have work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
