OF ROLE
The role supports the firm’s regulatory obligations under the FCA’s Client Assets Sourcebook (CASS) by providing day-to-day oversight, assurance and subject-matter expertise across CMC Markets’ UK regulated entities. Operating at Senior Specialist / Principle Specialist level, the position contributes to the design, maintenance and continual enhancement of the firm’s CASS control framework.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Governance & Oversight
Support the operation of the firm’s CASS Governance Framework, ensuring clear ownership and accountability of CASS responsibilities across business areas.
Prepare content and contribute to the monthly CASS Governance Committee, providing analysis, insight and recommendations.
Act as a key internal contact for CASS-related queries, providing guidance to stakeholders across Operations, Compliance, Finance and BI.
Assist the CASS Oversight Function in responding to internal and external audit requests as well as regulatory enquiries.
Risk Management & Assurance
Maintain and update the CASS Risk & Control Matrix, ensuring risks, mitigations and testing results are documented and kept current.
Support the management of the CASS Breach Log, ensuring breaches are captured accurately and remediation actions progressed.
Assist in maintaining the CASS Resolution Pack and ensuring ongoing compliance with CASS 10 requirements.
Perform assurance reviews on key CASS processes to test control effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities.
Operational Controls & Processes
Perform or review daily and monthly CASS controls including client money and asset reconciliations in line with CASS 6 & 7 requirements.
Support the end-to-end evaluation and documentation of operational processes to ensure compliance with the CASS regime.
Assist with impact assessments for new products, system enhancements or operational changes that may affect CASS compliance.
Support preparation and review of the monthly Client Money and Asset Return (CMAR).
Regulatory Horizon Scanning & Industry Engagement
Monitor FCA publications, industry developments and market changes relevant to client asset protection.
Summarise key regulatory developments for senior stakeholders and recommend updates to policies or processes where appropriate.
Participate in industry working groups or forums as required, sharing insights back into the business.
Training & Culture
Promote a strong culture of CASS awareness across the organisation through training, guidance and day-to-day support.
Assist in building broader CASS capability within Operations and other supporting teams.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Strong understanding of the FCA CASS regime, specifically CASS 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10.
At least 5 years’ experience within a regulated operational, compliance, audit or risk environment.
Strong operational control mindset, with the ability to identify control gaps and propose improvements.
Good understanding of financial operations, reconciliations and client asset workflows.
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence across teams.
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple deliverables under pressure.
Ability to analyse data, interpret regulation and translate requirements into practical solutions.
