Education and Work Experience

  1. Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  2. Work/Professional Experience: Customer service. sales

Scope of Position:

While working in the warehouse, will be responsible for helping in whatever capacity necessary: Pricing clothing or bric-a-brac sorting, Etc.

While working in the thrift store will assist customers in a polite and courteous manner and provide acceptable customer service in accordance with Salvation Army policy in order to support the overall operations of the thrift store.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  1. Must demonstrate a passion for, and be familiar with The Salvation Army’s mission, doctrine and local ministries; and represent the ideals of The Salvation Army in every aspect of his/her work.
  2. The ability to follow directions and be familiar with thrift store operations.
  3. The ability to present oneself in professional and appropriate manner.
  4. The ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds and circumstances.
  5. The ability to interact with co-workers and the public in a positive and courteous manner.
  6. Must be able to manage a variety of projects at any given time.
  7. Must be able to work in an environment that is busy and must be able to work in spite of interruptions and surrounding activities.
  8. This position requires the ability to be flexible in the work week schedule. Attendance is an essential function of this position.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

It is the responsibility of each employee of The Salvation Army, Medford Citadel Corps, to reach out to people, without discrimination, in the name of The Salvation Army; helping to build whole people- spirit, soul and body- in the name of The Salvation Army.

Warehouse Processor

  1. Help Truck Drivers load and unload trucks.
  2. Sort clothing and bric-a-brac.
  3. Cleaning bric-a-brac, furniture, and electrical appliances.
  4. Helping load solid items. Such as furniture, mattresses, etc. into customers’ vehicles.
  5. Bailing clothes and cardboard.

Thrift Store Cashier:

  1. Assist customers in the selection of merchandise.
  2. Assist with Opening and Closing procedures.
  3. Answer phones in a courteous manner.
  4. Ring up items and make proper change accurately.
  5. Maintain a clean store.
  6. Stocking
  7. Other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements

  1. Must have the ability to: sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis, to grasp, push, pull objects such as files, file cabinet drawers, and reach overhead, and to lift up to 50 lbs.
  2. Taking trash to compactor and running compactor.
  3. Pushing empty and loaded carts.

Working Conditions:

The Following Equipment May be Used:

  1. Frequent phone and in-person contact with people from diverse backgrounds will occur.
  2. Operation of an 18,000 GVW truck, power pallet jacks, tail gates, manual pallet jacks, and hand trucks; gas/propane and electric lift trucks; hydraulic leveling docks; baler.
  3. Using office supplies for Calculating, cataloging, inspecting, analyzing, planning, comprehension, cooperating with others, etc.

Attendance:

Regular and punctual attendance is an essential function of this position.

Communicable Diseases:

Possible exposure to communicable diseases.

Environmental Conditions:

  1. Work outdoors occasionally, sometimes in inclement weather.
  2. Works under adverse conditions such as noise, smoke, heat, dust, rough terrain, and all types of weather.
  3. Work in an environment containing exhaust, dust, grime, odors, fumes, and high level of noise.

Hostile Contacts & Security:

Involves daily contact with individuals who may exhibit hostile, assaultive behavior. Must be able to deal tactfully and diplomatically with angry individuals in person and on the telephone.

Warehouse & Yard Conditions:

  1. This is a large building and property. It requires extensive standing and walking, in all types of weather, on hard concrete or graveled surfaces. The job includes bending and lifting items up to 50 pounds.
  2. The following activities are performed both indoors and outdoors under all types of weather conditions: walking, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying heavy and irregular loads. Operation of: power pallet jacks, tail gates, manual pallet jacks, and hand trucks; gas/propane and electric lift trucks; hydraulic leveling docks.

MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.
