Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE

Under general supervision of the Director, the Cashier performs detailed processing of all documents relating to the payment of hospital debts and general accounting duties

LATITUDE, CONTACTS/INTERACTIONS

All positions of Huntsville Memorial Hospital are part of an interdisciplinary team, and as such, participate in the care and service delivery process through effective interaction with other team members. Primarily interacts with hospital staff, medical staff, patients, and visitors.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Prepare daily check listing from mail receipts and pulls all remits for posting
  • Enters new AP Vendors into AP module Vendor Dictionary
  • Research and resolve amounts posted the Unapplied Cash account
  • Assist with research and preparation of Unclaimed Property Report
  • Prepares Patient Accounts refund documents for the patient/insurance approved credit balance listing
  • Post payments to patient accounts and general ledger.
  • Balance payment postings for all hospital cashiers each day; prepare deposit for local bank and scan checks for deposit. Prepare Daily Cash Reconciliation Sheet. Transfers Daily Totals to Monthly reconciliation worksheet
  • Preforms random cash bag audit of all staff that have assigned cash bags for cash collections
  • Abides by the HMH Legal Compliance Code of Conduct.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality and appropriate handling of PHI.
  • Maintains a safe work environment and reports safety concerns appropriately.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: High School diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics preferred.
  • Experience: prior bookkeeping experience preferred.
  • Required Skills: Good mathematical perception. Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other computer software programs in daily accounting functions. 10-key calculator by touch

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Frequent: sitting, standing, walking, & reaching.
  • Occasional: lifting, carrying, bending, & squatting,
  • Visual and hearing acuity required. Work is inside, with good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
  • Possible exposure to: toxic/caustic chemicals or detergents, communicable diseases, blood borne pathogens
