Job Description

Gidgee Healing is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service delivering holistic, culturally safe care across Mt Isa, North West and the Lower Gulf regions. We lead a broad range of primary health, mental health and wellbeing services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, including the Normanton Recovery and Community Wellbeing Service (NRCWS).

About the Service

NRCWS supports individuals and families affected by alcohol and other drugs (AOD), gambling and family violence—partnering with community and stakeholders to reduce harm and strengthen spiritual, cultural, mental and physical wellbeing.

The Opportunity

As a Caseworker, you’ll deliver case‑managed Social & Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) services, prevention and early‑intervention activities, and practical recovery supports—both in‑centre and out in the community. You will maintain strong partnerships across agencies to enable continuity of care and ensure culturally safe, client-centred practice.

  • What you’ll be doing
  • Deliver recovery‑focused program content and one‑on‑one case management aligned to our service model.
  • Hold direct portfolio responsibility for a stream such as Doomadgee, Mornington Island, Transition or Non‑intensive residents.
  • Coordinate referrals, appointments and case conferences; complete Wellbeing Recovery, Exit and Relapse Prevention plans.
  • Provide risk assessments, comprehensive documentation and case notes within our online case management system.
  • Facilitate individual and group activities (e.g., cultural, physical activity, art/craft, men’s/women’s, life skills, work readiness).
  • Lead orientation/induction, exit planning and aftercare, including liaison with external agencies for follow‑up support.
  • Represent Gidgee Healing at community engagement and health promotion activities across the Lower Gulf (some after‑hours).
  • About You
  • Experience engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples presenting with AOD issues, providing effective recovery‑oriented case management.
  • Cert IV in AOD, Mental Health or Community Services (or similar), or willingness to undertake and complete.
  • Knowledge of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services and issues affecting services in remote contexts.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills; confident in facilitating group education.
  • Proven ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and uphold culturally safe, client‑centered care.
  • Solid digital literacy and willingness to learn new systems.

Practical Requirements

  • Current QLD C Class Driver Licence.
  • Satisfactory National Police Check.
  • Current Blue Card (or willingness to obtain).
  • Flexibility to travel and stay overnight in remote areas (including travel by road and small plane).

Why Join Gidgee Healing?

  • Contribute to community‑led, culturally grounded care with real impact across a vast Lower Gulf footprint.
  • Be part of a supportive, improvement‑focused team within a growing organisation.
