ABOUT US

The Salvation Army is a Christian movement and one of Australia's largest and most-loved charities. We believe in doing good that transforms lives and futures for the better. It is this belief which drives us to find new ways and places where we can make a difference. From times of personal crisis to moments of national grief, we are always here — providing support, safety, community, and opportunity.

Why this role matters

Withdrawal is one of the most vulnerable and courageous steps a person can take in their recovery journey. In this role, you become a steady, compassionate presence at a time when people need it most. You’ll walk alongside participants as they stabilise, rebuild confidence and reconnect with their strengths. Your support can be the difference between someone feeling alone in their struggle and feeling genuinely hopeful about their future.

About the role

As a Case Worker in our residential Withdrawal Unit, you will provide intensive case management and psychosocial support to participants as they navigate the early stages of recovery. You’ll work closely with a multidisciplinary team to create a safe, therapeutic environment where people feel respected, understood and empowered.

Your days will include one-on-one support, facilitate group activities, and helping participants access community supports. You’ll also accompany participants offsite when needed — whether that’s attending appointments, community activities or simply supporting them to reconnect with everyday life.

This permanent part-time position is worked across Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (7.6 hours per day), generally between 8am and 4pm, with some flexibility available. This permanent part time position is within the Withdrawal Services team, reporting to the Nurse Team Leader. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 5.

How you will make an impact

  • Provide high-quality case management including assessment, planning, monitoring and advocacy

  • Work collaboratively with participants to develop meaningful, achievable treatment plans

  • Deliver evidence-based interventions including CBT, Motivational Interviewing, Relapse Prevention, Mindfulness and ACT

  • Facilitate psychosocial groups that build connection, confidence and self-awareness

  • Support participants offsite, including attending appointments and community-based activities

  • Liaise with internal and external services to ensure coordinated, holistic care

  • Maintain accurate, timely and compliant clinical documentation

  • Monitor participant wellbeing, respond to risks and contribute to a safe, supportive environment

  • Work within a trauma-informed, harm-minimisation framework that honours dignity and choice

What you will bring

  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Counselling, Allied Health or a related discipline

  • Experience in the alcohol and other drugs sector (preferred)

  • Strong case management capability and understanding of AOD treatment models

  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions and facilitating groups

  • Ability to build trust, rapport and safety with participants

  • High-level communication, documentation and interpersonal skills

  • A trauma-informed, person-centred approach

  • Current driver’s licence (required for transporting participants)

  • Commitment to TSA’s mission, values and inclusive practice

What we offer

  • NFP salary packaging benefits (up to $15,900 tax free) and Entertainment Benefit ($2,650 tax free)

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • Employee Assistance Program – confidential counselling service

  • Financial, retail, and lifestyle discounts

  • Discounted health and fitness programs through Fitness Passport

  • Up to 8 weeks of leave per year through our purchase leave scheme

  • Generous parental leave (12 weeks)

  • Up to 5 days paid leave per year to support a TSA program or activity

  • A supportive, inclusive culture with passionate and dedicated team members

  • The opportunity to make a meaningful difference through your contribution to AOD services
