Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Industrial Formwork Carpenter & Toolmaker to take complete operational ownership of our concrete formwork and fabrication shop. Operating entirely within a sheltered, climate-controlled indoor manufacturing facility, this role functions as a solo shop manager and technical lead for our plant's structural setup.

This is not a rough framing or residential trim position. You will receive complex engineering prints a week in advance and will be solely responsible for calculating tolerances, layout geometry, managing your own raw material inventory, and fabricating high-precision wooden forms and custom foam blockouts that must withstand immense hydraulic pressure. If you are an expert woodworker who excels at precision math and independent layout, this role offers stability, autonomy, and top-tier compensation.

Job Responsibilities

  • High-Precision Form Engineering: Interpret complex structural engineering blueprints to layout and fabricate custom wood forms, bulkheads, and complex Styrofoam blockouts/knockouts to exact project tolerances.
  • Geometric & Structural Execution: Apply advanced layout techniques—including the 3-4-5 method for large-scale squareness, calculating fractional centerlines, and building precise draft angles (taper) into internal blockouts to ensure clean product stripping.
  • Concrete Deflection & Bleed Prevention: Engineer robust bracing systems capable of resisting high-pressure concrete placement. Utilize professional cabinetry joints, chamfers, and sealing techniques to completely eliminate grout leakage and bleeding at form seams.
  • Material Procurement & Inventory Control: Maintain full operational control of the carpentry shop by tracking inventory thresholds for lumber, specialized foam, and hardware, proactively ordering raw materials to match upcoming production schedules.
  • Quality & Collaboration: Conduct final dimensional quality checks on all completed formwork before releasing it to the production floor. Monitor form stability during active concrete placement and consult with production crews on form longevity and reuse optimization.

Job Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional industrial carpentry, commercial concrete form-building, heavy patternmaking, or high-end cabinet making.
  • Advanced Fractional Math: Must possess fluent, rapid mental math skills—specifically the ability to calculate fractional centerlines (e.g., halving 16ths/8ths) and add/subtract fractional measurements instantly without a calculator.
  • Blueprint Mastery: Advanced capability to read, troubleshoot, and build flawlessly from complex industrial shop drawings, structural blueprints, and geometric specifications.
  • Machinery Expertise: Proven track record of safely operating industrial woodworking machinery, including commercial table saws, radial arm saws, routers, and pneumatic fastening systems.
  • Autonomous Mindset: Strong organizational and time-management skills. Must be entirely capable of managing a solo shop workflow, meeting rigid production deadlines, and maintaining strict safety standards. Legal authorization to work in the United States is required.

Compensation

  • Hourly Rate: $32-$36/hour
  • 401(k) plan / group retirement savings program
  • Short-term and long-term disability benefits
  • Life insurance
  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • Paid time off
  • Paid holidays

  • Comprehensive medical, dental and disability benefits programs
  • Group retirement savings program
