White Oak conserves and sustains some of the earth's rarest wild animals through innovative training, research, education, and conservation breeding programs that contribute to the survival of wildlife in nature. The conservation programs span 600 acres along the St. Mary’s River in northeast Florida, surrounded by 22,000 acres of mixed forest and wetlands that make up the beautiful White Oak property. Founded in 1982, White Oak leads professional efforts to improve veterinary care, develop holistic animal management techniques, and better understand the biology of critically endangered species by providing excellent care and managing conservation programs for over 30 species of imperiled wildlife in large, naturalistic habitats.
White Oak Mission:
Saving endangered wildlife and habitats through sustainable populations, expanding education initiatives, and responsible land stewardship.
The Carpenter is responsible for building, maintaining, and installing structures and fixtures on White Oak property.
Essential Duties:
o Performs residential and light commercial construction.
o Follows established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean environment.
o Read and interprets blueprints for structural concepts.
o Builds or repairs cabinets, doors, frameworks, floors, trim work, decks, walkways, or other wooden fixtures using woodworking machines, hand tools, or power tools.
o Removes damaged or defective parts or sections of structures and repairs or replaces using hand tools.
o Inspects ceiling or flooring, wall coverings, siding, glass, or woodwork to detect broken or damaged structures.
o Installs foundations, walls, floors, ceilings, and roofs using materials such as wood, steel, metal, concrete, plastics, and composites of multiple materials. Installs and finishes sheetrock.
o Performs roof repairs and shingle installation.
o Performs Interior and exterior painting and staining.
o Performs minor plumbing and electrical work, as assigned.
o Performs welding and fabrication, as assigned.
o Installs and repairs fencing, as needed.
o Makes new signs and/or repairs old signs on property.
o Performs clean-up of property following storms, including debris clean-up and tree trimming and/or removal.
o Builds scaffolding and sets up ladders for work on tall structures.
o Performs insulation Installation.
o Operates heavy equipment as needed to perform job duties.
o Assists Support Services and Maintenance teams as needed.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:
• Minimum of four years’ experience with all phases of residential building and carpentry; or two years of residential building with two years of commercial construction experience; or two years of fencing installation with two years of general construction.
• Educational certificates are preferred.
• Certificates of competency in carpentry are preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
• Must have knowledge of shop tools including table saw, miter saw, drill press, sanders, routers, grinders, etc.
• Ability to operate without direct supervision and be self-motivated, persistent, confident, tenacious, and take pride in work.
• Strong organization skills.
• Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
• Willingness to learn new skills.
• Dependable, trustworthy, and neatly groomed.
• Capable of receiving and following instructions and communicating with co-workers.
• Ability to read and adhere to labels, safety warnings, and guidelines.
• Must be attentive to detail and always alert to ensure safety.
• Have basic computer skills.
Physical Requirements, Hazards, and Special Working Conditions:
• Must have valid Florida or Georgia drivers’ license.
• Working conditions include working in extreme temperatures, noise, hazardous materials, able to work using ladders and man lifts, and lift to 50 lbs.
• May be required to work occasional weekend and/or after-hours service work.
• Flexibility in work hours and schedule; job may occasionally require working long hours, weekends, and holidays.
