
Design of Components and Systems
Develop detailed 3D models for fabrication and assembly of new or retrofit components, assemblies, and systems.
Review designs for compliance with applicable local, national, and North American industrial codes and standards (e.g., TSSA, OHSA, CEC/NEC, ASME, ASTM, API).
Research and select appropriate components and fabrication methods relevant to packaged equipment design.
Prepare accurate and comprehensive Bills of Materials (BOMs) and support procurement with component specifications.
Assist in the preparation of project documentation, including assembly/installation drawings, layouts, and general arrangement (GA) drawings.
Interpret and work with engineering documents such as Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), mechanical/fabrication drawings, and structural drawings.
Conduct vendor documentation reviews to ensure component compatibility and compliance with project specifications.
Ensure adherence to the Carmeuse System Quality Management System.
Promote and enforce compliance with all company, client, and legislated safety policies and procedures.
Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Design Standards & Library Management
Create and maintain standard component and assembly drawings.
Basic Requirements
5-10 years’ related experience in mechanical design, preferably in industrial or packaged equipment environments.
Completion of a Mechanical Design Technologist Diploma or Certificate or a bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Chemical or a closely related disciplines)
Technical Expertise
Strong proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent 3D modeling tools.
Working knowledge of piping system design and layouts (e.g., SolidWorks Routing, AutoCAD Plant 3D) is an asset.
Knowledge of manufacturing processes and fabrication methods and mechanical components.
Familiarity with industrial systems controls is considered an asset.
Experience with Bluebeam for reviewing and marking up technical drawings.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Microsoft Project is an asset.
