Become a Life Sharing Host Family with Abound Health
Make a Lasting Impact by Welcoming Someone Into Your Home and Daily Life
Location: Opportunities Across Pennsylvania
Position Type: Contract
Organization: Abound Health
Are you looking for a meaningful way to apply your empathy, patience, compassion, and creativity in your everyday life? Abound Health is seeking caring, stable, and dedicated individuals or families across Pennsylvania to join our Life Sharing Program as Host Families. This unique opportunity allows you to open your home and heart to an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD), creating a long-term, family-like relationship built on trust, belonging, and shared experiences.
We are actively recruiting Host Families statewide for individuals who would thrive in a supportive, structured, and welcoming home environment. Each match is personalized, and we work closely with families to ensure compatibility, shared interests, and long-term success.
Life Sharing is a person-centered residential model where an individual becomes a fully integrated member of a family’s home and community. Unlike traditional caregiving, Life Sharing focuses on long-term relationships, independence, and meaningful daily experiences within a natural home setting.
As a Host Family, you provide not just a place to live — but a sense of belonging, stability, and purpose.
• Provide a safe, stable, and welcoming home
• Support daily living skills and household routines
• Offer mentorship, companionship, and emotional support
• Encourage community involvement and recreational activities
• Collaborate with Abound Health to follow person-centered plans
• Promote independence, dignity, and personal growth
• Transform Lives: Make a meaningful, lasting impact on someone’s quality of life
• Build Deep Connections: Form lifelong bonds and provide genuine companionship
• Work From Home: Support someone while continuing your own family routines
• Receive Support & Compensation: Host families receive a daily stipend and ongoing training
• 24/7 Support: Abound Health provides emergency support, respite coordination, and clinical consultation
To qualify, families must:
• Be Pennsylvania residents (all counties welcome)
• Be at least 21 years old
• Pass required background checks (FBI, child abuse, criminal)
• Complete home inspections and meet safety standards
• Provide personal and professional references
• Participate in interviews and a matching assessment
• Be willing to include the individual in meals, routines, activities, and family life
All Host Families receive:
• ODP-approved Life Sharing Orientation
• Fire Safety & Emergency Preparedness
• Medication Administration (if applicable)
• Individual Rights & Person-Centered Planning
• Ongoing annual training (e.g., trauma-informed care, dignity & respect)
• Contract Position: Host Families are independent contractors, not employees
• Flexible Matching: We work closely with you to ensure a strong, compatible match
• Ongoing Support: 24/7 emergency assistance, respite options, and case management
