Job Description

DSP (Direct Support Professional) *Higher Needs Location*

Harry Meyering Center supports people with developmental and intellectual disabilities in their homes and community.

Job Purpose:

Provide support to those with developmental disabilities in a person-centered way. Encourage independence and daily personal growth while assisting with cares and engaging in home and community activities. This DSP position offers slightly higher pay due to the increased level of support required at the location. The individuals served in this role have high support needs and may require more hands-on assistance, including daily personal cares.

Wage:

  • $19.00 per hour for full-time employees + $1 shift differential for direct care hours worked.
  • $17.50 per hour for part-time employees + $1 shift differential for direct care hours worked.

Location: Multiple locations in the greater Mankato, MN area.

Schedule: Flexible 8–40 hours/week, including every other weekend and some holidays.
Shifts are available across mornings, afternoons, and evenings.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide direct care for others in an individualized and meaningful way.
  • Assist in personal cares.
  • Engage in community activities, i.e., bowling, shopping, watching a movie or exercising.
  • Complete daily direct care such as bathing, toileting, feeding, and dressing.
  • Complete household chores such as cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
  • Maintain HIPAA Compliance in all communications to HMC, whether written or verbal, external and internal.
  • Follows all health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age and have a high school diploma or general education degree.
  • Willingness to learn.
  • Ability to perform tasks with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment and independently.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid United States driver's license and pass a driving record check conducted by our insurance carrier unless otherwise noted.
  • Must pass the MN Department of Human Services Background Study
  • Prior experience or training is not required, but having experience as a CNA, PCA, Caregiver, DSP, or healthcare-related professional is preferred.

Harry Meyering Center, Inc. is a residential provider for adults with physical and developmental disabilities.

Harry Meyering Center, Inc. opened in 1973 as a home for 44 individuals with developmental disabilities, which was made possible by the efforts of the local ARC and the parents of those 44 individuals.

We have since grown to serve 150 people in three programs, which include the Intermediate Care Facility (ICF), the Supportive Living Service (SLS), and Semi-Independent Living Services (SILS/SLS In-home).

HMC strives to provide the people we serve and their families with services that encourage dreams, focus on independence, foster community connections, help people cope with life-changing events and offer special attention to safety, health needs and security.
