Job Description

Patrick & Henry Community College is a comprehensive two-year institution committed to student success, lifelong learning, and enrichment of the quality of life in the region it serves. Serving Martinsville, Henry County, Patrick County, and the southern portion of Franklin County, P& HCC is a comprehensive open-door institution, accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools to award the associate degree. Patrick & Henry offers 29 associate degree programs, 12 certificate programs and 38 career studies certificate programs. The college also delivers a variety of nontraditional programs such as customized workforce development training, industry-recognized certifications, developmental and transitional programs, and courses for personal enrichment.

P& HCC staff members work with a student population that reflects the diversity of the of Virginia, with more than 40 percent of current students coming from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds. Knowledge and understanding of specific needs of underserved populations and acommitment to helping these individuals attain educational success are critical responsibilities of our institution.

Purpose of Position:
The purpose of the Career Center is to support Student Success and Workforce readiness by delivering comprehensive career services that align academic programs with industry needs. Through leadership as a MET administrator, the center provides strategic coordination of Career Advising, Job placement, Resume development, and Work-based learning for students and the community. The Career Center partners with faculty, staff, and industry leaders to integrate real-world experiences into the classroom, expand work-based learning opportunities, and strengthen employer engagement. It is committed to assisting students in developing the skills, knowledge, and professional connections necessary to achieve meaningful employment, while supporting institutional goals related to enrollment, retention, and career outcomes.


Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.


KSA's/Required Qualifications
The role requires comprehensive knowledge of workforce development trends, employer expectations, and effective work-based learning models such as internships, apprenticeships, and cooperative education. It includes understanding how academic programs—particularly in Manufacturing, Engineering, Health Care, and Skilled Trades—align with industry standards and labor market demands, as well as familiarity with career development practices, recruitment strategies, and employer engagement approaches. This knowledge enables effective coordination of career services that bridge education and employment. The position demands strong skills in building and sustaining partnerships with industry leaders, employers, and community organizations to develop meaningful work-based learning opportunities. It involves coordinating programs, conducting employer outreach, advising students on career pathways, and supporting job placement efforts. Effective communication, collaboration with faculty to integrate industry experiences into the curriculum, and the ability to organize career events and networking opportunities are critical. Additionally, the role requires the ability to collect and analyze data related to student outcomes and employer engagement to continuously improve services. Success in this role also depends on the ability to connect students with real-world opportunities by aligning academic experiences with workforce needs. This includes fostering inclusive access to career opportunities, managing multiple partnerships and priorities, and supporting diverse student populations in achieving employment outcomes. The ability to evaluate and enhance programs, advocate for students, and build sustainable pipelines between the college and industry partners is essential to advancing both student success and institutional goals.

Education, training, and/or work experience equivalent to a Master’s degree in a related field, that demonstrate the ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
