The Career Hub at Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC), located in Reno, Nevada, is seeking a Specialist to support students with their job search and professional skills. This is a part-time LOA position, up to 25 hours a week, with the option of health insurance.
Major functions include teaching job search skill workshops, individual appointments to coach students, and developing relationships within the college, with outside agencies, and the business community. The successful candidate will also provide students with referrals for college and community services, market Career Hub services to students and staff, and provide support to the Student Life Team, which includes the Disability Resource Center, Counseling, and many special population programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Designs and provides curriculum for in-person and virtual workshops focused on job search techniques and professionalism for students, including resume writing, LinkedIn, interviewing, and networking.
Facilitates in-classroom and virtual presentations to students from a variety of academic areas and special population programs, as well as participants in certain special population programs.
Meets individually with students in-person and virtually to provide coaching on job search strategies and professionalism.
Assists with the planning and execution of events such as job fairs, including employer invitations, collecting payments, arranging catering, working with a variety of on-campus entities, and marketing to students.
Collaborates with the Marketing and Communications Office on a variety of marketing projects, including flyers and digital/social media announcements regarding workshops, events, and other Career Hub offerings.
Works with employers and students to connect through the Handshake job board.
Supports multiple grant-funded initiatives that include goals of job obtainment and placement.
Interacts with community agencies to promote TMCC and the Career Hub as providers of job and career skills. This position helps with recruiting special populations for whom job and career skills can lead to gainful employment.
Participates and supports the efforts of the Student Life team and the Student Services Division.
Supports the Career Hub in collecting data that contributes to the direction and initiatives of the Career Hub and the Student Services team.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Communications, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
One year of experience providing job placement/career readiness services to clients, OR one year of experience providing job development for a company or agency.
Experience teaching classes or workshops.
The desire to work with students, faculty, and staff from many different backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
Experience working in higher education.
Experience working in a career center in a higher education setting.
Experience working with populations with barriers to education and/or employment.
Experience planning events, such as job fairs.
Experience working with government and community agencies to network, refer, or access services for clients.
Schedule
The typical schedule for this position will be between Monday and Friday, from 8 am-5 pm, up to 25 hours per week
A flexible schedule is available based on student need(s).
Salary Range
$25-27 per hour

Part-time Faculty are not eligible for health benefits unless they meet specific workload requirements per semester. This is an on-going pool of qualified individuals interested in part-time, temporary non-tenure track instructional opportunities at Truckee Meadows Community College. These opportunities are part-time only and will not be continued beyond the ending date.
