Job Description

The Career Coach will provide case management, supportive services, and career/employment support to individuals employed with Goodwill. This role will assist individuals in identifying and removing barriers to their ability to obtain and maintain housing, employment, achieving their career goals, financial literacy and independence, and improving productivity and employability skills in order to reach their vocational potential and, ultimately; improving their quality of life and achieve self-sufficiency.

  • A.Act as a Goodwill ambassador educating, promoting, and enrolling individuals in Goodwill programs and services.
  • B.Complete a needs assessment and conduct intake interviews with individuals to determine barriers to employment, as well as services needed.
  • C.Coach clients in developing an individualized action plan based on their individual barriers, needs, and goals.
  • D.Achieve consistent metrics related to client engagement outcomes, including meeting with clients at least every thirty days for assessment of action plans and next steps towards gaining self-sufficiency.
  • E.Assist a diverse population of clients in obtaining and maintaining employment that is consistent with their vocational goals, including external clients in need of services without access to opportunity centers.
  • F.Communicate with and serves as a liaison between the individual client, referral sources (if applicable), employers, and provides career support as needed.
  • G.Prepare and maintains accurate, and organized documentation, including timely input of information in designated case management/reporting systems subject to continuous improvement and auditing.
  • H.Identify current trends and forecast future workforce structures to help individuals develop and implement skill sets needed to procure and maintain viable workforce opportunities.
  • I.Assist individuals in obtaining information about employment benefits and how they will be affected by employment to help them make good decisions about employment opportunities.
  • J.Assist employees in navigating, understanding, and selecting Goodwill offered benefits to ensure optimal coverage.
  • K.Provide comprehensive assistance to employees in navigating the FMLA/ADA filing process, guiding and supporting them throughout the application process.
  • L.Promote Employer Rewards programs and activities.
  • M.Review professional literature and attend designated staff meetings, training, conferences, and other opportunities for professional development to better equip themselves and clients to access and leverage internal and external resources in alignment with trends related to career development.
  • N.Develop and maintain working relationships with local businesses, vocational training institutions, and various supportive services and community resource agencies to identify job placement and career advancement opportunities
  • O.Foster program partner relationships internally and externally.
  • P.Perform site visits, as required.
  • Q.Perform other duties as assigned.

Additional job duties may be specific and determined based on grant or partner funding requirements.

  • A.Demonstrated analytical capability and understanding.
  • B.Previous case management or related experience preferred.
  • C.Must possess versatility, discretion and good interpersonal skills with ability to work with a variety of diverse people, providing excellent customer service.
  • D.Excellent communication , interpersonal and critical thinking skills
  • E.Must be able to plan and develop workflow with minimal supervision and exercise good judgment.
  • F.Must be able to work a flexible schedule which could include evenings and weekends to accommodate programming requirements and needs of participants.
  • G.Must have reliable transportation to and from work, proof of insurance, a valid driver’s license, and an acceptable driving record.
  • A.Bachelor’s degree in psychology, human relations, social work, rehabilitation counseling, or related field, preferred.
  • B.Two years of work experience in the workforce development, human services, or counseling environments preferred.
  • C.Must maintain participant confidentiality and follow the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor Code of Ethics.
  • D.Must have strong knowledge in Microsoft Office e.g., Word, Outlook, and Excel; Must have proficient computer skills necessary to perform job duties.
  • A.This job may have physical requirements that range from sedentary to medium work. Sedentary work involves sitting for extended periods of time; occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, stooping; good finger dexterity and feeling; frequent repetitive motions; talking, hearing, and visual acuity and lifting up to 10 pounds.
  • B.Medium work involves more walking, standing, and occasional lifting to 30 pounds.
  • C.Travel across the state, as required and to other locations beyond the assigned work location is frequently required.
