At John Boner Neighborhood Centers (JBNC), we believe that meaningful employment can be life-changing. As a Career Coach, you'll work directly with neighbors to help them identify career goals, build skills, access training opportunities, and connect with employers who offer pathways to long-term economic stability. Through the Center for Working Families (CWF) initiative, you'll play a key role in helping individuals and families move toward financial success and self-sufficiency.
The Career Coach serves as a trusted guide, advocate, and connector for neighbors seeking employment and career advancement opportunities. In this role, you'll provide one-on-one coaching, facilitate workforce readiness training, build relationships with local employers, and help create opportunities that lead to sustainable careers and economic mobility. You'll also work collaboratively with community partners and JBNC team members to support neighbors throughout their career journey.
A typical day as a Career Coach involves meeting with neighbors to discuss career goals, assess skills, and identify opportunities for employment, education, or training. You'll spend time helping neighbors prepare resumes, complete job applications, practice interviewing, and navigate online job searches. Throughout the day, you'll build and maintain relationships with employers, coordinate hiring events, and connect neighbors to workforce development resources.
You may also facilitate job readiness workshops focused on workplace professionalism, communication, and career advancement. In addition, you'll track program outcomes, maintain case notes, and ensure data is accurately recorded to support reporting and grant requirements. Every day brings new opportunities to encourage, empower, and support neighbors as they work toward long-term financial stability and career success.
Successful Career Coaches build meaningful relationships with neighbors, help individuals achieve employment and career goals, maintain strong employer partnerships, and contribute to positive workforce outcomes. They are responsive, organized, collaborative, and committed to helping neighbors overcome barriers and achieve long-term economic stability. Success is measured not only through program outcomes, but through the lasting impact made in the lives of the neighbors we serve.
At John Boner Neighborhood Centers, you'll join a mission-driven team dedicated to strengthening the Near Eastside and creating opportunities for neighbors to thrive. Your work will have a direct impact on helping individuals and families achieve greater financial stability, career growth, and long-term success while contributing to a stronger and more vibrant community.

Our work falls into five focus areas, with multiple activities within each focus area.
1. Financial Success: JBNC supports neighbors in achieving financial well-being. Through education, coaching services, and career development, neighbors increase capacity to create, build, and pass down long-term wealth.
2. Education Achievement: When youth have access to exceptional educational supports and are set up to succeed in school, their opportunities for the future grow exponentially. JBNC helps foster that progress through a continuum of health, social, and educational supports from birth through college and career.
3. Health & Wellness: Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important for a happy life, and wellness looks different for each of us from generation to generation. That means different tools and programs to meet different goals. JBNC offers resources to help our neighbors achieve the results that lead to health and independence.
4. Housing Opportunities: By providing safe, stable housing options to families, older adults, mobility-impaired, and vulnerable families, JBNC is able to enhance and maintain quality of life for multiple generations. JBNC owns, operates and manages 250 housing units to offer stable housing to those who need it most.
5. Community Development: Great neighborhoods aren't just about the people - they're also about the places where we live, work, and play. JBNC works with neighbors, partners, and other stakeholders to improve the quality of life through impactful projects and initiatives that affect the quality of life for all residents.
