Job Description

Northwest Specialty Hospital is seeking a detail-oriented, customer service focused, Care Coordinator to join the Team!

The Point of Care Coordinator oversees all point‑of‑care testing (POCT) programs across the organization, ensuring regulatory compliance, staff competency, quality assurance, and accurate patient results. This role manages both CLIA‑waived and moderately complex testing sites, serving as the primary liaison between clinical departments and regulatory agencies. The position will also be responsible for serving as the Laboratory Medical Director for our CLIA program.

Program Oversight

  • Coordinate all POCT activities across clinics, inpatient units, and ancillary departments.
  • Maintain CLIA compliance for waived and moderately complex testing, including documentation, policies, and procedure updates.
  • Serve as the Medical Director for the CLIA program
  • Serve as the primary contact for inspections, audits, and regulatory reviews.

Quality Management

  • Develop and monitor quality control programs for all POCT devices and assays.
  • Review and trend quality indicators such as QC failures, operator errors, and proficiency testing results.
  • Implement corrective actions and follow‑up documentation when issues arise.

Training & Competency

  • Train new operators on POCT devices, workflows, and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct annual competency assessments for all POCT users, including direct observation and written evaluations.
  • Maintain operator access in device management systems (e.g., RALS).

Device & Inventory Management

  • Oversee device validation and verification for new POCT instruments and assays.
  • Coordinate maintenance and troubleshooting with vendors and biomedical engineering.
  • Monitor supply levels and ensure proper storage, labeling, and lot tracking.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Maintain accurate records for QC, calibration, training, and competency.
  • Prepare reports for laboratory leadership, quality committees, and regulatory bodies.
  • Update policies and procedures in accordance with CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and manufacturer requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to CLIA regulations for waived and moderately complex testing.
  • Manage proficiency testing including enrollment, distribution, result review, and documentation.
  • Conduct internal audits to identify gaps and maintain readiness for inspections.
  • Management of all CLIA accreditation applications and licensure.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in a laboratory or health‑related field (preferred).
  • Clinical laboratory or POCT experience and CLIA‑regulated testing.
  • Experience with quality systems and regulatory compliance.

Skills

  • Strong communication and teaching ability for training diverse clinical staff.
  • Excellent organization and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with POCT middleware systems and EMR integration.
  • Ability to interpret CLIA regulations and apply them operationally.
