As a Care and Support Worker at L’Arche, you will support adults with learning disabilities in line with agreed support and care plans, in all aspects of their everyday lives. You will deliver practical, physical and emotional support to people with learning disabilities, whilst proactively promoting choice, independence and self-determination.

You will:

  • be a passionate, well-motivated and committed support worker
  • have a good knowledge and understanding of person-centred care approaches
  • be an outstanding care practitioner with experience of supporting adults with learning disabilities.
  • provide high-quality support to people with learning disabilities in line with L’Arche values, policies and procedures, Reach Standards in supported living and the requirements of the Care Quality Commission [CQC].

You will carry out delegated responsibilities for tasks such as:

  • Record keeping
  • Report writing
  • Managing house or individual’s finances in accordance with the Support Plan
  • Administration of medication
  • First Aid
  • Fire Safety
  • Assist with the personal hygiene, dress and health needs of individuals in their home
  • Facilitate individuals to meet their leisure, social, practical and spiritual needs
  • Encourage individuals in their ongoing development of independence
  • Be responsible for clear communication with professionals, families of people whom L’Arche support, advocates, neighbours, visitors and other members of L’Arche who are in contact with the house
  • Foster positive relationships with people with and without a learning disability
  • Assist in celebrations and support spiritual life so that there is an atmosphere of welcome and friendship
  • Comply with all the Health and Safety, Fire and Care Quality Commission Regulations which apply to the community house
  • Comply with all the policies of L’Arche Community both written and spoken
  • Work as one of a team
  • Attend and participate in Team meetings and in House Meetings in a shared house
  • Attend reviews of a person with a learning disability and any other meetings requested by the community
  • Assist Core Members with their shopping, cooking, cleaning and laundry

You will need a minimum of two years’ work experience with adults with learning disabilities and a care certificate or willingness to work towards this during first three months

Our charity supports 13 adults with Learning Disabilities/Autism to lead fulfilling and independent lives whilst being active members of the community.

L’Arche Ipswich is an Outstanding CQC rated Supported Living Service that provides individualised and proactive support to enable individuals to become as independent as possible within the community. L’Arche Ipswich comprises of two beautiful houses, close to the town centre, designed to meet a variety of individual needs and preferences.

L’Arche Ipswich is more than just a service provider; we are a diverse, inclusive community of 30 people with and without learning disabilities who live, work and celebrate together.
