As a Cardiovascular Technician, your responsibilitieswill include performing both non-invasive and invasive procedures, such as echocardiography, vascular ultrasound, cardiovascular catheterization, stent insertion, balloonangioplastyand implanting pacemakers.You will also perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures as well as pre-procedure preparation, post-procedurecareand patient disposition in collaboration with thenursing and medicalcaregiversIn this role, you will also ensure patients feel informed,relaxedand safe during each appointment. A caregiver in this position works4 10-hour shifts, Monday-Friday, from 7:00AM – 5:30PM, with on-call requirements.

A caregiver who excels in this role will:

  • Provide guidelines for RCVT/RCIS roles and functions in the Cath Lab.

  • Assistnursing and medical caregivers in providing care to patients undergoing cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology procedures.

  • Perform scrubbing and monitoring duties during procedures.

  • Perform pre-procedure preparation, post-procedurecareand patient disposition in collaboration with nursing and medical staff.

  • Perform basic EKG interpretation, single and 12-lead ST segments analysis for ischemia/injury patterns and recognition of arrhythmias.

  • Recognize and interpret EKG changes related to all electrophysiology procedures, such as mapping,ablatingand implanting of cardiac resynchronization devices.

  • Perform arterial and venous pressure monitoring,samplingand basic interpretation.

  • Perform three-dimensional mapping systems and the principles of cardiac resynchronization therapy.

  • Document procedures completely and accurately including medications and supplies.

  • Perform patient observation.

  • Assistteam members in acute cardiac care, including resuscitation and related therapeutic effects.

  • Set up scrub procedures in both the Cath and EP lab.

  • Prepare all instruments/equipment for decontamination following universal precautions and take them to the sterilization department.

  • Restock procedure room when cases are completed for the day.

  • Check daily paper of the computer, papercalibrationand basic troubleshooting practices of recording equipment.

  • Report malfunctioning equipmentimmediatelytoNurseManager.

  • Alwaysmaintainpatient, medicalrecord,departmentand employee confidentiality.

Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Cardiovascular Lab Technology Program Certificate or equivalent educationdeemedacceptable by RCIS and RCES credentialing body

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or ALS through the American Red Cross

Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:

  • Certified or Registered Cardiovascular Technologist (RCVT)

  • Cath Lab or Interventional Radiology experience

  • Neuro experience strongly preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • Workload is heavy and requires constant lifting, moving of patients, equipment, instrument trays, and supplies.

  • Able to lift items up to 50 pounds without assistance and greater than 50 pounds with assistance.

  • Stooping, pushing and pulling required when moving patients or equipment into position for surgery.

Personal Protective Equipment:

  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
