Responsibilities

  • Abides by and enforces all compliance requirements and policies and performs these responsibilities in an ethical manner consistent with the organization's values
  • Adheres to hospital policies including confidentiality
  • Demonstrates CPR according to American Heart Association standards
  • Performs two-dimensional ultrasonic recordings and Doppler flow analyses of cardiac and vascular structures using ultrasound equipment to include echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography, fetal echocardiography, cranial ultrasound, transcranial doppler, bubble studies and exercise stress echocardiography.
  • Obtains and records appropriate velocities and calculates measurements according to procedure protocols;
  • Obtains appropriate 2D measurements using equipment measurement tools
  • Uses independent judgment in recognizing the need to extend the scope of the procedure according to diagnostic findings
  • Provides accurate preliminary reports to physicians on all echocardiography and vascular studies per department protocols
  • Provides thorough documentation of all procedures performed including procedure worksheets, patient demographics, and various log books
  • Accesses the Clinical Information System using a PC
  • Performs echocardiogram in conjunction with special procedures
  • Assists the RN and physician in preparation and discharge of patients having special procedures
  • Participates in departmental research projects, quality monitoring and statistical information as assigned
  • Cleans and monitors equipment, and reports equipment failure/problems to supervisor
  • Maintains a clean and orderly work area
  • Accepts and completes all duties positively and without conflict
  • Cooperates, helps others and improves the performance of the unit
  • Completes all mandatory unit, educational and hospital requirements
  • Utilizes cost effective practices in performing all aspects of the job
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Performs cleaning, inventory control.
  • Stocking of equipment and supplies
  • Demonstrates the ability to provide competent patient care to the following patient populations: Neonate, Infant- Toddler/Preschool.
  • School Age/Adolescent, Reproductive Age, Post/Peri Menopausal
  • Communicates and uses appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families and healthcare team in person and via telephone
  • Responds to overhead pages and ASCOM communication
  • Responds to electronic message system while on duty
  • Accesses and accurately maintains electronic and paper medical record
  • Participates on committees as assigned
  • Participates in Performance Improvement activities as assigned
  • Participates in call rotation per department guidelines
  • Completes all mandatory department, educational and hospital requirements
  • Adheres to current Infection Control and Safety Standards
  • Regular and prompt attendance
  • Ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
  • Related duties as assigned

Additional Information

Employees must be in a regular position, working 20 hours or more per week (.50 FTE or greater) to qualify for benefits.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma Or equivalent and completion of an approved cardiac or vascular training program Required OR
  • 2 years of cardiac or vascular ultrasound experience Required
  • RDCS - Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer Upon Hire Required and
  • RVT - Registered Vascular Technologist with the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers Upon Hire Required or
  • RCS - Registered Cardiac Sonographer Upon Hire Required and
  • RVS - Registered Vascular Sonographer with Cardiovascular Credentialing International Upon Hire Required and
  • Comparable combination of education and experience may substitute for the above requirements.
