The Surgical Tech handles the instruments, supplies and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure. He/she has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. He/she has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care a during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
Duties as follows:
• Checks Supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedure, such as scrubs, gowns and gloves.
• Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed for surgery.
• Performs appropriate counts with circulator prior to the operation ad n before incision is closed.
I. Major Responsibilities:
1. Checks supplies, and equipment needed for surgical procedure.
2. Using the principles of asepsis, prepares instruments, supplies and sutures for the surgical procedure
3. Assists in properly positioning patient
4. Sets up sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment and medications/solutions needed for procedure.
5. Provides appropriate instrumentation and supplies to surgeon during procedures.
II. Position Qualifications:
License/Certification/Education:
Required:
1. BLS Certification
2. Surgical Technologist certification required3. Graduate of an approved Surgical Technologist program
Experience/Skills:
Required:
1. Well organized and possess high degree of manual dexterity
2. Excellent interpersonal, organizational, customer service and communication skills required OR equivalent combination of the above
Preferred:1.
3 years experience in a hospital-based surgical service preferred
