Job Description

The Cardiothoracic Division of the Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona (Phoenix, AZ) is seeking a full-time, highly qualified cardiothoracic radiologist to join a dynamic, collegial and subspecialty-focused group of 7 dedicated radiologists. The division performs and interprets all manner of thoracic imaging with particular practice emphasis in oncologic, vascular, and pulmonary parenchymal lung diseases. All Cardiac CT and MR is interpreted by the division, comprising approximately 20-25% of clinical volumes and representing an area of continually strong growth, covering all areas of cardiac pathology especially hypertrophic and other non-ischemic cardiomyopathies, structural heart disease diagnosis and interventional planning, anginal coronary CTA evaluation including FFRCT, adult congenital heart disease and aortopathies.

As is typical across all Departments at Mayo Clinic, we enjoy strong collaborative relationships with our referring providers, especially in pulmonary medicine, thoracic surgery, cardiology and pathology, and participate in a variety of sub-speciality multi-disciplinary conferences. The ideal candidate will have training experience in both thoracic and cardiac imaging and be proficient in the interpretation of all manner of cardiothoracic examinations. Because of our collegial environment and track record of mentorship, early to mid career applicants are very welcome and encouraged to apply. A strong desire to be engaged in the education of residents and fellows is required and the desire to advance additional academic interests preferred. In order to help provide flexibility and support work-life balance, our practice employs a hybrid work environment with a mixture of onsite and teleradiology (from home within the Phoenix metro area) shifts. However, all of our cardiothoracic radiologists rotate through on campus shifts throughout the week, so individuals only interested in a teleradiology position should not apply. Dedicated academic time tied to academic productivity is available and encouraged.

Mayo Clinic Arizona has campuses located in Phoenix and Scottsdale, AZ and is consistently ranked No. 1 in the state of Arizona by U.S. News & World Report’s Best Hospitals, with top 20 national designations for service lines in Pulmonology and Lung Surgery, top 25 for Oncology and top 30 for Cardiovascular Surgery. Already one of the busiest solid organ transplant centers in the country, including high volume cardiac transplantation, Mayo Clinic Arizona has recently started a lung transplant program as well.

Mayo Clinic Arizona has a top ranked medical school and is also affiliated with Arizona State University through an Alliance for Healthcare partnership. The Department of Radiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona currently has 65 radiologists, 5 physicists, and 20 residents. The residency program is top ranked with planned expansion to 32 residents, including an IR/DR program starting in 2025. Radiology equipment is state of the art and currently includes 9 MRI scanners (3T, 1.5T, 7T), one 3T PET/MRI, one 3T intraoperative MRI, 2 PET/CT scanners, and 8 CT scanners (including photon-counting CT). In 2025, planned equipment additions include 2 additional MRs as well as additional CTs and US. After a recent “Arizona. Bold. Forward” major capital investment, an additional 1.4 million square feet of space was added to the Phoenix campus, doubling its size and resulting in approximately 400 inpatient beds.

Certification through the American Board of Radiology required. Eligibility for a state medical license in Arizona. Candidates must have completed a full year fellowship in Thoracic and/or Cardiac Imaging and be board eligible or board certified through ABR.
