The Department of Internal Medicine at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center invites applications for a Board Eligible/Board Certified Cardio-Oncologist to join our growing Cardiology/Cardio-Oncology program.

This position offers the opportunity to practice cardiovascular medicine in a uniquely multidisciplinary environment where cardiology is directly integrated into the care of patients receiving complex cancer therapies.

The Cardio-Oncologist will partner closely with medical oncologists, hematologists, radiation oncologists, surgeons, critical care physicians, advanced practice providers, and other specialists to protect and optimize cardiovascular health before, during, and after cancer treatment.

The successful candidate will evaluate and manage patients with existing cardiovascular disease as well as those at risk for or experiencing cardiovascular complications associated with chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, radiation, transplantation, and other cancer treatments.

For physicians interested in academic medicine, the position also provides opportunities to participate in clinical research, education, quality improvement, and the continued development of a growing cardio-oncology program within an NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

What You’ll Do
• Provide comprehensive cardiovascular and cardio-oncology evaluation and management for patients across the cancer care continuum
• Assess cardiovascular risk and optimize patients prior to the initiation of potentially cardiotoxic cancer therapies
• Diagnose and manage cardiovascular complications associated with chemotherapy, targeted therapies, immunotherapy, radiation therapy, transplantation, and other cancer treatments
• Care for cancer survivors experiencing long-term or late cardiovascular effects of treatment
• Manage common and complex cardiovascular conditions including heart failure, coronary disease, hypertension, arrhythmias, valvular disease, and treatment-associated cardiomyopathy within the oncology population
• Provide timely cardiovascular consultation to oncology teams to support treatment decisions while balancing cardiovascular risk and cancer-treatment goals
• Perform and interpret ECGs and transthoracic echocardiography, including strain imaging
• Perform and/or interpret transesophageal echocardiography based on clinical expertise and program needs
• Work collaboratively with colleagues as Roswell Park expands capabilities in stress echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, cardiac MRI, and other advanced cardiovascular imaging modalities
• Participate in multidisciplinary discussions and develop individualized • cardiovascular management strategies for patients receiving complex cancer therapies
• Establish longitudinal relationships with patients requiring cardiovascular surveillance throughout treatment and survivorship
• Collaborate with oncology clinicians to develop evidence-based approaches to cardiovascular screening, surveillance, prevention, and treatment
• Contribute to clinical quality initiatives designed to improve cardiovascular outcomes, access, safety, and patient experience
• Participate in the ongoing development of clinical pathways and protocols for cardio-oncology care
• Engage in clinical studies, translational initiatives, or investigator-driven research based on individual interests
• Pursue protected research time when appropriate based on academic interests and research activity
• Contribute to scholarly activity, presentations, publications, and collaborative research within cardio-oncology and related disciplines
• Participate in the education of residents, fellows, medical students, advanced practice providers, and other trainees
• Engage in mentorship and professional development through Roswell Park’s academic and research infrastructure
• Participate in departmental and institutional activities appropriate to an academic faculty appointment

About the Division

The Cardiology/Cardio-Oncology program at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center provides specialized cardiovascular care designed around the needs of patients with cancer and cancer survivors.
Our cardiologists work directly with multidisciplinary oncology teams to evaluate cardiovascular risk, manage pre-existing cardiovascular disease, identify treatment-related complications, and help patients safely continue potentially lifesaving cancer therapies whenever possible.

As cancer treatments continue to improve and patients live longer following diagnosis, cardiovascular health has become an increasingly important component of comprehensive cancer care. Roswell Park is committed to expanding its cardio-oncology program and cardiovascular imaging capabilities to meet these evolving needs.

What You’ll Bring
• MD, DO, or equivalent medical degree
• Board Eligibility or Board Certification in Cardiovascular Disease
• Eligibility for licensure to practice medicine in the State of New York
• Clinical training and experience in cardiovascular medicine
• Demonstrated interest, training, or experience in cardio-oncology and the cardiovascular management of patients with cancer
• ASCeXAM testamur status and/or substantial echocardiography experience
• Experience with echocardiography, including contemporary approaches to cardiovascular surveillance such as strain imaging
• Ability to evaluate and manage cardiovascular complications associated with modern cancer therapies
• Strong clinical judgment and a commitment to thoughtful, evidence-based, patient-centered care
• Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with oncologists and other multidisciplinary specialists
• Interest in contributing to the continued development of a growing cardio-oncology program
• Commitment to education, quality improvement, and academic medicine
• Interest in clinical or translational research welcomed but not required
• Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to caring for patients with complex medical needs

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience

License and Certification Requirement
1. License to practice as a Medical Doctor in the State of New York or License to practice as a dentist in the State of New York as required for the area of expertise.
2. Possession of ABIM board certified/eligible in cardiovascular diseases.

Education and Experience
Medical Doctor degree or Doctor of Dental Science degree and the equivalent of one (1) year of full-time experience in cardiovascular diseases including six (6) months in a supervisory, administrative, consultative, managerial or executive capacity.

NOTE:
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited school, college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.

Preferred, but Not Required
Leadership experience and interest in directing or expanding a Cardiology/Cardio-Oncology division
Active ABIM certification in Internal Medicine
Board Eligibility or Certification in Nuclear Cardiology
Experience or interest in stress echocardiography, nuclear stress testing, or cardiac MRI
Interest in clinical research, cardio-oncology trials, and translational cardiovascular initiatives
