Job Description

Performs routine and specialized outpatient procedures to document and interpret heart electrical activity. Prepares patients for examinations and performs EKGs. Recognizes changes in patient rhythms and conduction and identifies whether equipment functions properly. Performs professional and administrative duties related to nuclear medicine stress testing, including patient preparation, IV start, EKG lead placement interpretation, exercise and pharmacological stress test administration and ACLS measure application when directed.

Job Requirements:

Education and Work Experience:

  • High School Education/GED or equivalent: Required
  • Associate’s/Technical Degree or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications:

  • Electrocardiograph (EKG) Technician certification: Preferred

Department Specific License/Certifications:

  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from approved vendor per AH policy: Required

Essential Functions:

  • Prepares patients for stress testing procedures, including patient interviews, documenting medical history, obtaining patient consent and signatures and teaching patients about nuclear imaging procedure risks and complications. Assists physicians with stress EKG, stress Echo and Pharmacological Stress tests.
  • Prepares and monitors patients through 12 lead EKG stress testing, including the application of 12 lead EKG monitor pads and application leads. Identifies and interprets EKG rhythms.
  • Performs nuclear medicine stress testing, patient prep and 12 lead EKG stress test monitoring. Establishes peripheral IV access and administers IV medicine for stress testing. Prepares and scans ambulatory monitors. Sets up and monitors external counter pulsation patients.
  • Prepares pharmacological stress agents, dose calculations and administration. Assesses patient blood pressure, pulse, respiration and lung sounds. Establishes peripheral Intravenous (IV) access.
  • Responsible for test scheduling, filing, copying and other clerical functions. Completes daily paperwork, including obtaining physician signatures, photocopying and faxing.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
