Job Objective:
Performs echocardiography studies on all patient populations served in the Cardiology units. Performs transesophageal stress echocardiography as ordered. May be cross-trained in EKG performance and record keeping.
Education:
Required: Graduation from an accredited ultrasound/sonography program or associate’s degree or higher in echocardiography/cardiovascular sonography if hired after March 1, 2023
Licensure/Certification:
Required: Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) certification by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) certification by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) within one (1) year of employment; American Heart Association BLS

Ability to analyze data, perform appropriate calculations, gather preliminary interpretation, submit appropriate charge (or credit) according to procedure performed and present appropriate paper work/file to physician for interpretation, Ability to communicate, educate, answer questions and address concerns appropriately to patients, providers and team, Ability to operate equipment according to technical specifications and application of equipment, Ability to perform 2-D, M-Mode, Spectral and Color Flow Doppler by Transthoracic and Transesophageal echocardiography on all patients served, Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines, Proficient in the principles of echocardiography
Essential Responsibilities
1. Demonstrates compliance with Code of Conduct and compliance policies, and takes action to resolve compliance questions or concerns and report suspected violations.
2. Provides studies in both the in-patient and out-patient Cardiology units, as needed.
3. Scheduled for "on-call" duty, as needed.
4. Prepares patients for diagnostic procedures to include taking vital signs and measurements, positioning patients and explaining procedures; review medical history of patients.
5. Coordinates with pacer techs in obtaining AV Optimization results.
6. Performs thorough echocardiography studies (2-D, M-Mode, Color Flow and Spectral Doppler, Transesophageal, Stress Echo applying use of Definity and Bubble Study) on all patient populations served with high technical quality timely and accurately according to policy and procedure.
7. Minimizes the number or re-examinations.
8. Confirms presence or absence of skin allergies from patients.
9. Analyzes, organizes data and performs appropriate calculation timely and accurately.
10. Gathers pertinent medical information form the patient record and/or interview.
11. Compiles preliminary interpretations, presents results to physicians timely and accurately for physician interpretation.
12. Documents and processes procedures timely and accurately after imaging according to policy and procedure to minimize delay to reading physician.
13. Ensures patients are comfortable and assists patients as needed.
14. Assists the department during downtime by answering phones, photocopying records, faxing, and distributing correspondence.
15. Assists physicians and with transport of patients willingly and without being prompted.
16. Participates in activities, which results in professional and department growth.
17. Prepares the patient’s room and equipment for the echocardiography study.
18.Maintains a clean work area.
19. Processes billing charges or credits by the end of the shift according to policy and procedure.
20. Maintains clean, well-stocked equipment with supplies and in good working order after each shift.
21. Participates in department’s performance improvement and quality assessment programs.
22. Reports any unsafe or mal-functioning equipment to the appropriate personnel and takes the necessary step in processing reported equipment.
23. May be responsible for performing pediatric and neonate exams, as needed.
24. Performs other duties as assigned.
