Performs prescribed non-invasive cardiology testing on identified patients. Proactively supports efforts to ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

Experience

  • Successful completion of a CAAHEP accredited cardiovascular program

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Cardiovascular Technology, Diagnostic Medical Sonography, Nursing, or healthcare-related field
  • 1 year of experience as a cardiac sonographer, and 1 year in a in a full-time pediatric cardiac sonography position

Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Certification Summary

  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of employment

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Must be able to successfully pass the Basic Windows Assessment at 80% or higher rating within 30 days of employment

Job Responsibilities

  • Performs cardiac sonographic procedures producing scans of highest diagnostic quality through evaluation and selection of proper machine settings and patient positioning to produce optimum images for cardiologist interpretation while using an age-specific approach.
  • Demonstrates competencies that incorporate age-specific guidelines, including N = Neonate (less than 30 days), I = Infant (30 days to 1 year), EC = Early Childhood (1-5 years), LC = Late Childhood (5-13 years), A = Adolescent (13-17 years), AD = Adult, and ALL = all ages.
  • Identifies pediatric cardiac anomalies as obtained through cardiac sonography.
  • Gathers patient history and information pertinent to exam to be performed to assist in diagnosis and communicates to cardiologist.
  • Utilizes assigned Syngo picture archiving and communication system functions, ensuring functions are used properly and completely and information is entered accurately.
  • Ensures accuracy of all patient documentation and accuracy of billing for all procedures.
  • Maintains American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Cardiovascular Credentialing International registered status.
  • Participates in lab performance improvement activities.
  • Ensures patient safety and quality of care/service provided.
  • Operates all cardiac sonography equipment according to specification.
  • Assists physicians, nurses, and other staff when requested or required.
  • Provides on-call services as defined by cardiac sonography lab.
  • Performs advanced cardiac sonography procedures.
  • Participates in clinical research.
