A Brief Overview

$5,000.000 sign-on bonus for eligible external hires

This position serves as a registry eligible sonographer in the echocardiography laboratory and at the cardiology satellite offices. The cardiac sonographer I will be trained and must be willing to learn all aspects of an echocardiographic exam, have a basic knowledge of cardiac pathology/echo equipment and perform other duties as assigned. The cardiac sonographer I contributes skills to assist with an efficient operation of the department.

What You Will Do

  • Performs clinical m-Mode, 2-D, CFM, Doppler echocardiograms under supervision per lab standards. Orients to stress (treadmill and pharmacologic), 3D and strain echocardiography (where applicable)
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to learn new procedures and techniques.
  • Orients to scanning all patient types (ICU/OR/ER) when applicable.
  • Seeks assistance with difficult studies.
  • Recognizes basic cardiac pathology and life threatening situations and intervenes appropriately.
  • Participates in the on-call system (if applicable).
  • Performs EKG's and Holter/Event monitors (if applicable).
  • Participates in rounds/conferences.
  • Completes documentation (written / computerized) including verification of demographic data to ensure proper billing.
  • Maintains a clean environment and alerts the proper personnel when supplies are low.
  • Demonstrates behavior which impacts the productivity, efficiency, and quality of communication and collaboration in the department.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Initiates and directs projects/QI processes/problem solving initiatives with peers and/or hospital leadership
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • For specific duties and responsibilities, refer to documentation provided by the department during orientation.
  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.

Qualifications

Education
  • High School Equivalent / GED (Required) and
  • Graduate of an approved Cardiac Sonography Program (Required) or
  • Graduate of an approved Sonography Program with cross-training in echocardiography (Required)
  • Member of the American Society of Echocardiography (Preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Basic computer skills (Required proficiency)
  • Good communication skills (Required proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of cardiac pathology (Required proficiency)
  • Basic knowledge of the fundamentals of echocardiography (Required proficiency)
  • Ability to learn to use all types of echo machines (Required proficiency)
Licenses and Certifications
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or RCS within one year of graduation from an approved Cardiovascular Technology Program (Required within 1 Year) or
  • Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) or RCS within two years from the start date of cross-training in echocardiography or working to fulfill clinical experience pre-requisites for a credentialing examination (Required within 2 Years) and
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) (Required)
